Man I thought I got rid of em!

Did some recon today at my permission and I was amazed how many ground squirrels there were, still. Most of my trigger time this year have been for practice with a few GS kills here and there. So I geared up and hunkered next to some trees. After several hours, 8 squirrels ate lead but by the time my battery was charged only 3 made it on camera.

Nice shooting and video! I've heard it said that for every squirrel you see, there are several more underground. In my experience trying to keep 50 acres clear of squirrels I've found you can get most of them in a few weeks of hunting, but there'll usually be a few "educated" ones that require real patience to get a shot at. Once those have been taken care of you'll be squirrel free for a few months until some adolescent "adventurer" squirrels discover the old burrows and recolonize the area. The good news is that these adolescents are not as wary and will usually give you a shot within 40 yards if you wait a few minutes. It takes periodic observation and shooting sessions to keep them out entirely.

You thought you'd wiped out the entire squirrel population?

I can't believe how my squirrels and chipmunks there are on my land this year. It's awesome for air gun hunting / posting. I think airgunners might be the only group that actually prays for an infestation.

Every time I me I look out my window I can see at least 3 squirrels and 5 chipmunks. It's a never ending supply of free reactive targets!
