Maybe I am not able to find or see it, but from what I gather, Maine treats airguns as firearms? But the only reference I see to hunting with airguns is in the faq where it states it is legal for small game. But if in fact they are treated as firearms, Im wondering specifically about deer and coyote? The other issue is that anything that is afixxed to a firearm (again, would apply to airguns if being perceived the same) to reduce its sound report is illegal without a permit. I think Ive seen hunting vids with airguns that are moderated/shrouded in the state of Maine, however I could be wrong. This is why Im posting in forums first, as I do know it is apporpriate to contact law enforcement and fish and game/conservation, however I dont want to draw any undue attention.

Anyone in Maine have experience with this?

"ajshoots"I think it is in your best interest to contact a game warden or your state natural resources office to get all the facts about what is legal!!
Thanks, but maybe you did not read my post because that (your response) is not what I was looking for from my inquiry. Ive dealt with this in my own state and was looking for people's experience before I do so, eg contact enforcement as I posted. There is nothing wrong with asking members for their experience, in my opinion, seems what this is all about.

"ajshoots"I did indeed read your post, but I have first hand experience with the results of taking someones word versus what the people who enforce the laws say!! I have never had a negative experience or drawn undue attention from contacting officials to "know" the law in certain states or areas. I have had bad experiences by following what others assumed was legal.
The your first post was just a disregard for the attempt of mine to gather information and perfect example for the reasoning in my approach. You provided a response based on your experience that forced you to an assumption that I would act as you did. Your secondary support for your response is also that in your experience all agency officials (people) will react in the same manner versus considering that there are exceptions, albeit few, however as normative and that there are variances (standard deviations and extreme spreads, to keep this in the airgun theme :) ). In fact it is even prudent to understand that there are covariances, eg different responses from the same person based on slight variations to the situation. After all, we do not completely abide by laws of physics.

It is MY experience to have as much information possible, because I have not had the same experience as you where there is never any misinterpretation, misunderstanding, or ignorance of information with any agencies. I have the utmost respect for my own Fish and Game and law enforcement, and think they do an amazing job, not sure every person would provide you with the same description of their experience. There is a methodology that I am sure many have applied even in the airgun world which has provided the opportunity for many to be able to hunt, and it was not without due process. We are not allowed to hunt with airguns in NH.

I appreciate your response and have no intentions of accepting anyone's opinion as the law, just gathering information. I am after the same result as you, however I may have a different approach.
