Tuning M3 Has To Go Back...

Just like the title says...M3 has to go back. The first regulator looks like it gave up the ghost. I've had regulator creep on the regulator since I received the rifle but after I fired it once the reg would go to where it was supposed to be. Today, after doing a caliber change from .35 to .22 the first reg was reading the bottle pressure. I degassed the rifle and adjusted the first regulator down and everything seemed ok until I fired a round and the rush of air came out from the front regulator. I immediately took off the bottle and checked my gauges for leaks.

Went to install the bottle again and this time left the bottle on and the entire bottle emptied. I sending it back to FX to get it fixed. FX has a part on their website for request to send the rifle in for repairs- took just a few minutes to fill out.

That's too bad.

I may have the same problem though.

When I received my M3 compact, my first regulator read the bottle pressure. It went down to 150 bar after I shot it a few times.

BUT, when I leave it for a day or so, the first reg pressure is up over 200 bar and when shooting goes below 150 bar to around 130 and stays there during the shooting.

Might have to call FX myself.

Please post again when you figure it out. I thought the M3 I got from Ken Hicks this week had an issue with the first reg, but after thinking about it, all is fine. I will preface by saying neither of my regulators has creep, have had no problem returning to set point, have never released air, and I have not adjusted anything. The gun came with a report stating the first reg was set at 200 and the second reg set at 150. I shot the gun down to 150 bar in the bottle. The bottle and reg gauge showed 150 bar-the same, of course. How can the first reg show the 200 bar Ken set it at, when the bottle can only supply 150 bar? I filled the gun to 200 bar and the bottle gauge and first reg showed the same 200 bar, again, of course. I filled the bottle more, to 225 bar. Now, the bottle shows the 225 bar, the first reg is rock solid on 200 bar, and the second reg rock solid on 150 bar. With any bottle fill/pressure of 200 bar or less, the and bottle and first reg will show the same. I hope FX gets yours fixed quickly.

Same thing happened to mine. Got it fixed up, but was disappointed that it was less than 4 weeks after I got it. I don't have a high opinion of the front reg in the M3

I'm disappointed but glad it happened while I was at home and not out on the hunt or at the range. The first regulator is a great idea but is extremely finicky and in my case seems to have failed as did yours Moistone. I get that things happen and it's the way that FX deals with you when issues arise that determine my level of confidence in FX and their/my rifle: customer service has been great to me.

I checked my email first thing and found my RMA from FX. Took the rifle to the FedEx shipping service and had them package it up to send back. Was very happy with the quick response seeing I sent the ticket on Saturday.

Now it's just waiting for the rifle to get fixed and see what occurred...

I would think they could turn that repair around in a couple days if their repair department isn't backlogged.

1st regulator on my M3 isn't the most consistent thing either... When shooting sometimes it drops a bit low then after a couple shots goes back to the set point, and if the rifle sits overnight it likes to creep up 20 bar or so over the set point.

However, velocity/ES/SD on the chronograph is always right on and very consistent so the second regulator is doing its job perfectly. I just want the 1st regulator to be a little more consistent.

At some point I'll pull the first regulator and polish the sealing surfaces, inspect the belleville washers, and relube the o rings with molykote; simple enough job. I just need to do it before it decides to go sideways on me while out hunting.

After squirrel season I might send my M3 back for a new lower action block, or try to get them to send me a new one and I'll replace it myself. My M3 is an early production rifle with the setscrews and sealer in the 2 front trigger guard screws to "fix" the accidentally too deep drilled holes. It isn't leaking now, but again, I don't want it to decide to leak one day when I really need it.

Let us know how it works when you get it back.

I have the same issue on my less than one week old M3. 1st regulator creeps to bottle pressure overnight and after a refill. FX sent me an adjustment screw oring and it solved the creep for two day than the problem came back. The bottle adapter vent hole was also leaking 40bars per night. I bought mine through Ken Hicks as well so I’m wonder if that batch of M3 are having same 1st reg issue. The rifle is brand new so I decide to send my M3 to FX instead of waiting for an oring reseal kit.

Sorry to see it on your rifle as well. I decided before I try anything to just send it back in and let my warranty work the way it is supposed to. I didn't get my M3 from SPAW though, mine was from AGD so I already knew to just go with FX.

Not sure if you had Ken do some tuning or not but at least you have already been in contact with FX. The only items I changed were gauges and the K&L pellet probe holder. FX has been really good at getting to warranty issues.

Please post how long it takes to get your gun back from FX. They had mine for 9 months so I hope, for your sake, their turnaround has improved.

What in the world!!!! What happened? Why did you send it back for service? By the time you got it back the new model was coming out. Sorry to hear it took 9 months; please tell me your rifle is perfect now.

Mine was about 6 months old and still under warranty. The trigger would go off all by itself with safety on and no one touching the gun. Scared the crap out of me the first time it happened because my hunting partner was nearly shot! Local dealer had to send it back TWICE because it came back the first time (after 6 months at FX) still not working. Took 3 more months to get it back the second time. I am in the US and it was returned to the US service center so it’s not like it was sent back to the EU. I hope your experience is more positive and FX has addressed some serious customer service flaws.
