Tuning M3 .25 Magazine Change from 28 to 25 Round Capacity

On 11/16, Pistonjohn posted a thread on a magazine feed problem he was having with a new M3. KevinWood44 mentioned he'd researched the reason his new .25 M3 came with a 25-round magazine, as opposed to the 28-round one advertised, and it was to address a feed problem. My 28-round M3 .25 magazine is having serious feeding problems and I was wondering if anyone has any information regarding this? Thanks,

WM

Yes they did change to a 25 rnd mag, presumably from the problems you mention. I was a little bummed when I received my m3 cause I had just purchased a stud mag reloader system and it was for the original 28 rnd mags. My son received his m3 2 weeks after me and his gun came with the original 28 rnd mag... go figure. If you want a better working 25 rnd mag, you can buy just the insert for way less $ from Orion the iguana hunter

I could not find the Pistonjohn thread but Orion here on the forum makes some feeder wheels for the stock Impact magazines and more recently complete magazines.

I have no problems with pellets or slugs with my M3 .30. Still I have not tried anything lighter than 47.2 slugs or 44.75 pellets. My .25 mags are all the original aluminum units.

I bought a couple of the Orion feeder wheels, that stop slugs from jamming in the Stock FX magazines, before I even tried my magazines out but only after I purchased a couple of nice Speed Dial Loaders for the original mags.

The Speed Loaders do not werq with the Orion parts only with the stock magazines. So, I only converted one of my mags to the Orion style Feeder wheel. I have been using these interchangeably along side of each other and have not had problems with either one thus far.

Thanks sbb888 and Bio,

Was shooting today and magazine jammed with several pellets remaining. Got dowel, pushed gently from muzzle till felt pellet moved back into magazine, then was able to remove mag. Reloaded magazine, but, prior to install, noticed pellet in chamber. Re-inserted dowel and pushed, four pellets fell out. Cleared gun and put it away. Gun had been performing smoothly and with accuracy. Did AGN SEARCH on M3 magazine problems and found Pistonjohn's post, with KevinWood's comments.

I've contacted FX-USA Service Department for information and for warranty replacement. I'm curious why no notification from FX, with the improved magazine offered.

Thanks for information on the Orion feeder wheels, will go that route, if need be.

Bio,

Thanks for the tip and video. Inner wheel movement seems silky smooth and spring tension seems strong, but I can't say if strong enough towards end of cycle. FX-USA sending replacement, so we'll see. Got to say, FX-USA has impressed me with this response, as well as with my Wildcat. We FX supporters can be proud of them, for sure.

FX-USA,

Thank you for a prompt response in this matter. So far, all my dealings with the FX-USA Customer Service Team have been professional and courteous, this speaks well to the importance that FX Airguns places on customer satisfaction.

If you compare the FX OEM feeder wheels and the ones offered by Orion, there are two differences:

1) The overall diameter of the wheel is smaller on FX OEM. Orion has a larger diameter which results in less slop/rattle of the projectiles between the wheel and magazine body.

2) The height of the dividers on the feeder wheels. Orion has squeezed as much height into the dividers as possible in order to keep the projectiles straight. For the .22 and .30 the difference here between FX OEM and Orion is smaller, but there is still a difference. On the .25 it is (or at least WAS) very significant because Orion's wheel holds 25 round vs the old OEM 28 round. I remember him saying when he did the modeling, it was obvious with 28 round there wasn't enough space between the projectiles and the dividers on the feeder wheel were too short. For this reason I don't think he has ever offered anything other than 25 round in .25 cal.

Orion wheels all the way for me, even if round count is same as FX. The tolerances are tighter and colors are cool, helping to distinguish between calibers.

TDK,

Thank you, sir. That was a very helpful explanation. I'm going to have to give an Accuracy +1 for that. I suspected slop/rattle was some part of the problem since the pellet I pushed back into the magazine, with the dowel, was wedged in, almost sideways, yet the pellet shape was normal. At the time I thought that much play can't be good. I'm going to use the Orion link that Bio posted to order a wheel to convert my OEM (28 round) FX magazine to a 25 round Orion. It will be nice to have a spare to go with one being sent by FX. Thanks again, guys like you, Bio and sbb888 have been a tremendous help.
