Lower speed, lower wind deflection

I was again learning stuff about shooting and came across the question that had one .22lr shooter had.

The ballistic programs give less wind deflection for rimfire ammo with less speed. And this applies even when both bullets have identical weight!

Here is the link I found which explains this phenomena: http://www.gunsmoke.com/guns/1022/22drift_cross.html

The reason to this is that as we know, bullet has hard time passing in the transonic region and that is due to air resistance growing over double of the resistance under or over the transonic region. (Insert fancy picture here)

And I had never thought that the same air resistance would of course apply to wind effects too!

Good info Slayerous, must be why the sub sonic 22lr's are so popular. My Savage groups are best with them anyway. Out of curiosity I plugged in some different velocities into Chairgun leaving everything else alone, FX500, JSB MkI's, wind at 90* and 10mph and check the drift at 100yds. Seems like the minimum drift is around 880fps. Ironically that's where my gun is shooting, woohoo!. Very interesting, thanks for bringing up the subject. Wondering now how it varies for .22 cal to 30 cal.
