Looking for accurate .30 @ 200yrds

Hello, I am new to the forums and looking for something accurate up to 200yrs with some decent killing power. We live on a small ranch with lots of room for target shooting as well as a number of small game animals that are a nuisance for our animals and crops. My first choice has been an FX MK II 700mm but wanted to open the topic not only because there is a long lead time to get one but also before spending 2-4k to build it to perform.

HI I have a edgun R5 super long 30 caliber, I have mine tuned to shoot 52 gr slugs 920fps or about 96fpe with a huma regulator , It is very accurate with pellets and slugs , and I have taken adult coyotes out to 100 yds 22 shot clean,

They only made 401 of these , I See some in classifieds ,so they can be bought here in classifieds , I think Edgun west may be out of them , The are a rugged accurate quiet gun ,

, I never tried the new day-state but they have a few models to 100fpe , then their is American air arms evol , around 90fpe , all are higher priced guns , Alot of guys here run impacts , I my self had a few I had sold ,They were not mk2 with plenum so , I cant say how latest one is ,

I have those also! I bought a couple lower budget PCP guns this last year and am not getting as much grief from the wife, kids & nearby property owners using air. I like the tinkering as well, somewhat addicting. I've has some decent shots at 100yrds + that didn't kill though likely due to power loss at the distance and accuracy of the shot placement so want to step it up my game a notch.

Oh Yea,I get it,fun and a challenge. Shooting at those distance you will need a solid foundation , great scope and right"ammo".

If I was going to shoot 200 yds.I would want a better platform than what your thinking, not because it can't be done ,but because I have a >need for a more traditional type rifle, like a bench rest type=RAW or then the Evo type......100 yds. not a big problem 200 yds. Big problem.

Beware, you will get good and bad advice, only use the advice from those that shoot those long distances and use ALL resources.

Shooting slugs is like shooting a 22 subsonic Rimfire so EXTREME CAUTION needs to be taken if your neighbor goes for a walk or bike ride or their home is within 100 yards from where you're shooting since slugs are like bullets.

Sooner or later something terrible (HEAVENS FORBID!) may happen when just too many people don't realize how dangerous slugs really are when shooting out of a high powered airgun especially since its really quiet and may get careless that may result in unintended consequences. It's like shooting a 22 Rimfire pistol with a silencer attached.

I killed very large pigs with it.

When you say .30 I'm guessing you mean for 44.75 JSB pellets, not .308 slugs.

Was a straight .300 bore .298" lands 28" x 0.880" SS Chanlynn 1:28 barrel for sale recently. I didn't want to go down that road. If it had been a 1:10-1:14 could of shot pellets or slugs.

At 200 yards I suggest CF or fully custom airgun over most component guns.

Depends on if shot count or being tethered are a requirement for you.

Hi Lou.. May I ask what slugs your taking those coyotes with?

Airforce Texan might be a good, easily obtainable and reasonably priced option. I like watching northern airgunner’s youtube channel to see some cool long range shots he does with those. Mr Hollowpoint’s channel is another great one to check out to see what kind of slugs work well in the texan, or other big bore rifles.

For .30 and up I’d like to get my hands on an American Air Arms Evol or Slayer if money and wait time to order one are no issue. Mountainsport Airguns has some nice vids on using those rifles at longer ranges. Very impressive guns those are. Well built, rugged, powerful and accurate. But you pay for all that too! 😁

Thank you for the words of caution. I don't have neighbors to the north or west for miles anyway which is where I shoot. I have a couple in other directions still more than 200yrds.

Yeah I guess 200yrds is a bit extreme however would be nice to have some power and accuracy at 100-150yrds while maybe 200yrds is more of a beer can challenge...

As for pellets or slugs I'm planning to use slugs for larger game, pellets would be squirrels or target practice. A magazine is nice but not a requirement.

Accurate 30 cal at 200 yards, how about a nice Hall or Stolle action in .308 Win?

Sorry, the whole power trend in air rifles is still a bit of an enigma to me, considering that precision accuracy in air rifles goes back to the 10 meter Olympic rifles......10 meters. I guess it's like the old saying, if you're in the water, you either swim or sink, can't stay in one place.

Pretty sure any of the YouTube stuff is going to be heavily edited and ... at times sponsored. This said, not to offend, but more so to suggest capturing the most epic moments. Kind of like Dude Perfect and the rest of the folks who like toss basketballs off big damns and score nothing but the net.

200 yards in the wind? Use a PB. MV/ME isn't enough to buck the wind at 200 yards even with slugs.

Let me put it in PB terms:

How accurate would you be with a .22 short, sub-sonic, out of a Marlin model 60 at 200 yards?

They don’t or they wouldn’t even suggest it. Spend $200 for a tax stamp and $800 to $1,000 for a firearm suppressor, and your wife, kids and neighbors will be happy, and it will still be cheaper than 1 high end airgun. It will kill humanely and more safely (with the right ammo), and can be used on multiple firearms (with the proper purchase).
