Long Range PCP

So it is worth noting what you're looking to do here is, essentially, hunting with a 300BLK subsonic rifle. It is perfectly doable, but you're essentially stuck to about 200 yards, and accurate ranging is CRITICIAL. Loren's numbers are not out of the ballpark of what you're going to build, however estimated they may be, because it is just the nature of the beast with subsonics. As you approach such steep descent angles on your projectile, slight changes in estimated range vs. actual range will start making HUGE changes in POI. Just something to keep in mind, as the game stops being just about your rifle's consistency as your own abilities become a major factor. :)

Big power + a high BC leaves fast / flat projectiles in the dust..

Yeah, this is my train of thought.

Here's another question - supposing that you were architecting a PCP with big power - is there a point where you'd want to remove a regulator from the equation? In other words, with what we have available on the open market - where is the high water mark compared to the power achieved with unregulated systems?

@Loren - I appreciate that visual. I'm at the point of breaking out my computer and writing math / graph code to get similar visual references.

@STO - I'm starting to think a supersonic build is in my future.

You can still download Chairgun frome Hawke's website. It is pretty handy to look at different what if scenarios

Not many regulated big bore rifles on the market. I think the challenge there is getting a plenum size larger enough to drive the heavy projectiles. Will have to look at a boutique brand like Amaerican Air Arms.

The problem with supersonic is having enough power to drive the projectile well above mach1 so that there is flight time at supersonic to get to target, Otherwise it drops right back down through transonic and becomes destabilized.

.257 Weatherby Magnum is nice flat shooting supersonic round....lol

I never realized that ChairGun had those graphing capabilities - awesome!
