Long Range Hunting Made Easy - How To Calculate pellet Drop Without A Chronograp

Great information. If I may be so bold as to add something to it.

The described scenario is one I follow fairly closely, but I do one more thing which takes even more time, but is worth it in the end.

Most mil-dot scopes are only mil-dot at some specific power level. The 4x16 Leapers scope I use, that point is 10. This begs the question, what happens if you use 16 power, or say 4 power? Well, the mil-dots aren't very accurate at either power, and aren't linear either. So my range card I carry with me, has the impact point change per mil-dot at 4 and 16 (they're right where Leapers says they are at 10 power) listed as well. Lots of work to be sure, but at least your hold over (or under) will be more accurate.
