Results Long Range, Full Power Field-(ish) Target @ Diablo Rod and Gun 7/31/21

Diablo put together a freshly mowed field with tiny spinners, cow bells and steel plates arrayed across the shooting bays.

This was our first time to put together an event that could accommodate 30 to 90 ft/lb guns, both hunting and target, in a field target type event. Each bay had it's particular challenge and kink. Our score card had the layout for a handy reference (thanks to Pete P. for the Diabolical Diablo Diabolo challenge)

Distances were known, and the order of attack changed as you proceed through the stations. Two and Three man teams worked together on doping the winds and holdovers, but Lady Luck (and her bstrd step child, Mr. Murphy) held many of the cards as the wind was in the 20 mph's and shifting. There two "close shots" and quite a few at 95 to 150 yards.

Sizes of the targets ranged from generous all the way down to frightfully small.

The guns used were interesting as well- There was a frankengun, Delta Wolf, Red Wolf, Crown variations- oh and a Taipan Mutant. Calibers were .177 (yep, .177 at 200 yards) to .25 cal. .30 cal was the upper limit, but I don't think I saw one on the range.

We will have more video footage shortly, but for now, here are some snaps of the event and the scores:

First off, thank you to everyone who made this match possible. Martins administrative power shines once again as he secures access to the facility, gets the word out to great participants, whips up a scorecard (missing one of my puns in a lane title but I’ll let him slide this time) and comes through in the last minute with M.O.A.R Cowbells to round out 8 lanes of targets. The entirety of the rest of the targets Conrad probably fabricated for us, and continuously repairs. Then he comes down and gets great photos. All the shooters helped setup and teardown which made everything smooth as ice. Looking forward to drone video footage thanks to Son Lu.
I hope everyone had a great time, I certainly did. I am looking forward to reviewing the scorecards as the course of fire would have been challenging on a calm day. The strong gusts changing angle from behind and our beloved MPRs... “unique features” that influence those gusts made everyones score today impressive. 59 official shots included 8 off had shots. No 200y bonus alarm bells were rung and nobody broke the KYL. Already have ideas for fine tuning the course of fire(order larger gongs). Please give us any suggestions, ideas for different targets, length of course of fire/shot count, anything. Most importantly, BBQ next time? We are very much looking forward to hosting another soon.

Very cool! Pellets only? Looks like benchrest except of course the off hand. Any other requirements? Wish I lived closer!!! So Scott S won with a .177? Wow!!!

Oh, I re-read and see slugs were also allowed... How many shots did Jim C forget to close the breech on his gun? ;)

PS, this looks like it should have been in the Benchrest forum...

Mike,

As too Jim C, he had a brain fart with a scope change on his rifle and his click #'s did not jive. We shared the JSAR .177 shooting the NSA 15's. * Same rifle as shot in Oregon being fed Slugs which it was made / tuned for originally.

As too position we had a choice, while most of us had our seat and sticks on site and with benches behind us it was a no brainer which was most steady.

We had conversation on what to call it .... Unlimited Field Target was more in line. 100 FPE & .30 cal max, No optics restriction, Holdover or Click, Sit or shoot any way you want .... HIT THE TARGETS !!!
