I agree, for the price range your suggesting the RAW is the way to go. Thomas if you want to up your price range? If you watch the classified’s RAW’s show up at very good prices, also a good thing about them is they are usually very well taken care of and not cannalbilized!

+1 RAW. I like everything about the RAW except the moderator.

If you are worried about RAW noise then just budget a little more and speak with Neil Clague after you get your gun. My experience with the difference between the original AF offset moderator and the NC custom moderator on my .25 RAW is night-and-day. NC's design, while just a little longer, is much quieter and I believe improved accuracy just a bit.

But if you purchase directly from Martin, as recommended above, this all might be moot as Martin's moderator design on the original RAWs was better than anything which has come out of AF in my opinion.

I'm also a fan of RW's for long range shooting. But you want the Safari level of power. So either get a Safari, or make sure that the RW you purchase has the GCU 2 electronics. I don't have any specific experience with a .25 cal RW, but the high power .22's are excellent for longer range work. And there is just something I have noticed about my Daystates in .25 cal (Pulsar and Wolverine HP): They all seemed to chamber .25 cal pellets a little roughly. Other calibers - no problem, smooth as butter, but .25 cal was just different. Steve Scialli also mentions this in one of the Daystate .25's he reviewed. And my accuracy with Daystates in .25 cal has never rivaled what it is in other calibers. YMMV.

And RW noise? Well, with a little 0dB on my HP .22, I was shooting with some friends (who were shooting their Crown .25's) and whenever I took a shot they thought that my gun was broken. Until they looked at the target group. Very efficient use of air with the RWs = less noise for the power they are putting out.

I like the Crowns as well but for me they can't hold the same accuracy as RAWs and RWs at longer range. But that could very well be on the shooter. But Crowns these days are pretty much as easy to find as Impacts. I can personally shoot a long Crown off the bench much more accurately than a long Impact. I especially love the new GRS stocks - very comfortable and stable for me. And less to go wrong on a Crown as compared to an Impact.

I will hold my new PCP acquisition to met that new rifle. 

Long range or 100+ yards I default to slugs and sadly there aren’t many guns out there shoot slugs well out of box yet. Maverick with .22 superior or heavy liner will be very hard to beat in that respect and you already own it. Tune your Maverick to be your dedicated long range slug slinger and done! Put a 25 heavy barrel on and you can shoot slugs with BC of 0.11 right out of box is awesome!



If you stick with pellets the options are endless, personally I like unregulated guns for pellets now because good quality unregulated guns are just unbelievably reliable and consistent. with all the talks of power and long range we are forgetting just how good a good quality basic unregulated pellet guns are. You mentioned accuracy, simplicity and reliability then I highly recommend you to look at some old school BSA, AA and Daystate but pellets at 100+ is not that fun.


if you only shoot 100-300, want another gun AND don’t want a FX then the uragan seems to have some great results but not sure about out of the box. @knifemaker did a lot of work to his, I would reach out to him for some info about his. Given his results uragan would my first non-FX option to look at.

Redwolf seems to have great results with certain slugs but darn expensive or well above impact price.

A RAW .30 is a thing if beauty at 100 yards and of course the Red Wolf Safari is a great option...

The Delta Wolf is an up and comer and in.25 or .30 will easily compete...

If a new gun were in my budget I would get an AGT as we have Derrick here in the USA for anything needed. 

The AGT Uragan is an excellent choice and Derrick Wall can sure make em sing....I have a tuned DWall. 30 Uragan and is a lights out shooter and can also be tuned for slugs if desired.

The Kalibr Cricket Tactical is another great option....I have a .30 and it shoots the 50 grain JSB and FX pellets at 870 just hole in hole....The 44 grains at 915 are just as well and slugs in the 50 grain range seem to show real promise. I am not a huge slug guy but from my limited testing no doubt could be tuned for such ammunition.

FX Crown in 700mm configuration is a proven winner, although long but off the bench is a non issue.

Though my regular field target rifle is a RAW, it is probably the shortest and lightest RAW ever built (to my specs). My only hesitation in recommending you a RAW is your high priority, "I want as light gun as reasonable". From what I can tell, RAWs have only grown in size and weight since mine was built. And short as mine is, it's heavy for its length despite Martin making it to my same high priority as your's, "I want as light gun as reasonable".

Going to follow this thread for sure. Very interested in your next rifle decision. 

You can't go wrong purchasing a semi-custom rifle, hand built by the designer. Martin is an authorized dealer for RAW/Airforce. He can take an off the shelf rifle and bend it to you desires. 

At least give him a call to discuss the possibilities. 

I would probably seek out an MKII in 700mm. I like ,30 cal, but you said .25. My MKII has been flawless and without any issues other than needing the AMP refreshed after a couple of years of heavy shooting.. It still shot well from the bench, but I like hunting with mine. I would go with a slug liner at those ranges.

To replace my 257 Haley Scandalous, I bought a AF Texan LSS 257 and put it in a MadDog stock. Nothing shoots flatter on air, great molds and bulets are available, LW barrel, USA company.

Where did you find out about this shroud/end cap?

Steve, your criteria screams “RAW.” I have two of them now. One in a .25 in walnut. One in a .22 chassis.


Both are incredible shooters, they are built solid, and extremely simple to operate and maintain. My .25 is about four years old now - not one issue.

I have now switched over to NSA slugs with both. The accuracy is great and they are really consistent in all regards.
