Ok what is done is done..

I made an ONLINE excel sheet to input scope specs into.

Have a look at https://1drv.ms/x/s!AsE2h7sKm902igsB7ml6Hpd4PKwu what's it like and If you think it is a good idea, please edit to your preference and add your scope there!

You can find the edit button from the top-right corner:

And if you want to, you can download it on to your own hard drive!

For every post to this question, there will be a different opinion. I can't tell you how many scopes I've own and have now settled on a few. However, each one has a specifica purpose whether it's BR, FT, or just plinking around. I wouldn't dare suggest anything here because someone else will say they have something better or cheaper. Do you homework and make your own decision.

I think this post is to gather info on what meets certain criteria, not to exclude or pick the "best"

however, I think it's totally useful to have this list as many of us have been burned by scopes that don't focus close enough (25 yards or less)

and I think we have a consensus that mil / mil on FFP is highly desired as well

Certainly for focusing on distances beyond 25 yards the selection opens up

zebraMichael is there a way for us to have a list that can be updated by anyone that won't ruin the search function?

For example, could it be a link to somewhere on the site that sits outside the regular search feature (except for the title perhaps)?

We don't have anything like that at this time. My best suggestion would be to create a spreadsheet in Google Drive. You could make it open to the public & allow anyone who clicks on the link to edit/add to the list. With a spreadsheet you could have many useful columns.

Saw this, very good idea. Following are for PCP, top two I think are rated springer.

Athlon Midas BTR AHMR SFP IF MOA 2.5-15x50 Glass is amazing. Made in China, boohiss. But the feel and quality control are top notch. I love it. Iluminated (IF) and parallax 10 yards (the 27x model is 30 yards). 30mm tube, 24 oz.

The cheapest scope that I ran across and ended up buying that met certain qualitys was also an Athlon, Talos 6-24x50. Big difference in fit and finish, everything is STIFF. Some may like that. Covered turrents. Perfectly usable scope, got it for $175. Lightweight 21oz, 1" tube.

MTC Genesis. Great scope, hard to find. Korean made. 10 yard Parallax. 5-20x50 Not too heavy at 25oz, nice eye relief to about 15x. That's where it looks best anyway.

Bushnell Elite 3200. Parallax down to 10 yards. Mine is a 40mm front focus objective 24x max power. Used it a bit until suitable side focus pokus scopes. Deer hunting Mil Dot not all that desireable for fine shooting on flies like we do (continuas crosshairsus). Still, it could work. Made in Japan. Got it on a powder .243 now. Just a 1" tube. Very LONG scope, lol. Very sharp, great fit and finish, closed turrents, non illuminated. Do NOT use on a springer.

Breaking out model and magnification is kinda iffy as model usually includes the magnification range. Not clear where the AO of the model number of the Diamondback should go. Also, I think (but not sure), this scope is discontinued which might be interesting to capture in a column. Length and weight should probably be separate columns. Reticle matters. For instance, I don't have time to adjust the turrets when hunting rabbits, which means sub-tensions are really important. With the Dead-Hold BDC on the Diamondback there are no sub-tensions above the center, which in turn means I almost have to change my zero from 10 yr to 14 yr with my rifle to stay to have sub-tensions available in the ranges that I use. Also, illumination might be important. I wish my scope had that feature. Diameter of the scope matters, I guess, when you need to figure out what rings you need.

It is really valuable to have this information in one place.
