Like a BOSS!

Just got done with the .30 FX Boss update. My buddy Nick @socaloldman refinished the walnut stock for me and did an awesome job. I tuned the Boss just like my .30 FX Bobcat Mk2 (Reaper) so it shoots about the same, but more of a bench gun. Typical upgrades, Huma reg. set to 150b., larger Titanium valve seat, polished barrel, trigger adjust, set for about 870 FPS with .30 JSB 44.75 pellets, Huggett integrated moderator (whisper quiet), and as all Boss/Bobcat, very accurate.

So now though, I'm considering converting this to a .25 caliber gun to shoot Mk2 Heavy, since I already have one gun that shoots .30 pellets lights out. I "think" the STX 600mm barrel will fit with only minor reduction in the barrel diameter (outer barrel, not steel coupler or brass transfer port, since they already fit). Seems like the first 1/2 inch or so of the outer barrel need to be slightly less diameter, a few thousandth. Put in a Superior Heavy liner, tune for 930 FPS, change out the probe for a .25 Royale pellet probe, and I should have a very accurate .25 caliber 100Y bench pellet gun. Anyone done this to their Boss?

PS., thanks again to Nick for the impressive job he did on this gorgeous stock!!!

It looks great Mike. Didn’t the stock come up well!
I haven’t had a Boss but always admired them.Good looking, powerful no nonsense

If you switch to .25 maybe consider a solid carbon fibre option. You might want to index the barrel before hand. I did a solid cf 700mm barrel for a mk1 Wildcat. It turned out really well and was reasonable straight forward.
Looking forward to seeing how your Boss comes along!

Mike, when I was toying with the thought of a slug gun Glem Chally told me I could do that to my Boss, if I remember correctly. But you know how I feel about my gun & didn't want to change NUTHIN! If I can find the tips he sent me I'll send it to you. She's looking purty! Nick done good! Think I might ask him to do that to my .25.

That is one pretty gun. If it is shooting great why do you want to change the cal to a 25?

Butch

Because I already have a .30 Bobcat Mk2 which is essentially the same gun (barrel and action). And because I’m really starting g to think the .25 Heavy is the way to go for serious 100 yard Benchrest competition. Better ballistics than the .30, and not as fragile and finicky as the .22 RD Monsters. I have a hunch that I could do really well in 2022 with a gun that shoots .25 Heavy reliably and accurately. Plus no one else that I know competes with a .25 caliber Boss! ;)
