Leshiy .25 Tuning (a JSB 25gr question)

I decided to tweak my Leshiy with the .25 / 350mm barrel configuration today, and turned up the Huma reg to 130bar. The 25gr JSBs are coming out far hotter than I anticipated, 886fps (that's like 270m/s / 44FPE, I did t expect that!).

I have the HST data all fleshed out and found both speed curves, so for this particular pellet - what is the ideal speed for stability given it's B.C., is 860fps typically good enough?

This would be for longer range hunting and longer range paper targets, and I'd want to optimize for up to ~10-12mph crosswinds.

The only first hand experiences that I had with it was no more than 115y when I had the reg set way lower (812fps). The winds were 12-15mph and it grouped well, but I don't think they'd have had much more distance in them with that tune.

When I had the WC25 MKII, I shot those pellets at 953fps with no instability. I don't know about the low end.

Nice! At that speed, what kind of range would you have put that it in terms of accurate shots?

I read a while back somewhere that 900fps was the top end, but I thought that was something specific to the Leshiy / 250mm.

I clocked one at 942 with the reg set somewhere under 145, but I might just try and shoot for 44 or 45FPE and see how it does.

hi friend. i have set leshiy at 250 meters per second. with 350mm barrel in .25 cal

dont remember shot count exactly but its around 15. huma set at 118-120 bar.

gun makes two good shots at the same speed when it falls from regulator.

that speed is super accurate.

Thanks. How far out do you typically shoot with that tune?

I'm going to settle for now at 265m/s / 870fps. I have my reg set at 130bar, with 23 ccw clicks on the HST, I'm getting a good, consistent shot string with each fill (287bar) for 11 shots:

FPS | Tank Pressure | Pressure Drop

  1. 871 | 270 | 17
  2. 871 | 254 | 16
  3. 871 | 238 | 16
  4. 873 | 223 | 15
  5. 870 | 209 | 14
  6. 869 | 194 | 15
  7. 869 | 181 | 13
  8. 868 | 168 | 13
  9. 869 | 156 | 12
  10. 867 | 142 | 14
  11. 872 | 131 | 11
    [/LIST=1]

    Avg per shot:
    • FPS: 870
    • Bar Drop: 14.18

I think 130bar is a pretty good setting for higher power .25, just a little louder than usual 👀👂

i shot maximum at 90 meters from a car window. almost 100 yards. very very accurate. 1,5 inch group from 5 shot.

These barrels are pretty great for soft lead pellets. I might start looking into some longer barrels soon for slugs to give it more versatility 👀

I had the same idea as you to try some slugs in the Leshiy to start with in .22 caliber. Probably the NSA 19g and 21 grain and try to run them around 900 plus fps. From another post the LW barrel even being choked might work. It would be nice to see and try a longer barrel in the Leshiy too. I know part of the reason for the Leshiy is to be compact in length but the gun is so light to start with it would not matter to me. Anyway part of the fun of airguns is experimenting. Bill

I absolutely agree - experimenting is undoubtedly part of the fun! It also seems less stressful to me compared to the Impact, less moving parts and less to manage I suppose? Either way, it's a cool little platform with lots of tinkering potential.

I have the 250mm .22 barrel, but I honestly hadn't use it much (if at all). I was kind of fixated on .25 when I bought it, and installed the 350mm 25 right after I took it out of the box. A 350mm .22 barrel might be my next move, just to see how 18gr JSBs do (I also have about 90 21gr NSAs left). I wouldn't mind finding some longer barrels for it in .22, but I had read something about the Leshiy design being geared more towards larger calibers (something with the TP dimensions I think, I'll have to dig through my bookmarks from a couple of months ago and see if I can find the discussion).
