Left Hand Upgrade for FX Impact

I finally got around to making my FX Impact left hand friendly, and I’m not talking about the side cocking. In fact, I prefer having the cocking lever on the right. However the factory cheek piece leaves a cold, sharp, uncomfortable edge that feels like placing your face on a knife. I can’t blame FX as they are just trying to market for the masses, which inevitably excludes the non-masses. Spock said it best in the Wrath of Khan, “Logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.”

So the “few” sometimes have to fend for themselves, which sometimes leads to new ideas and creative solutions. My solution to the cheek rest problem ended up addressing several things.

  1. Achive good cheek weld that allows proper eye alignment with the scope.
  2. Make it comfortable.
  3. Easy implementation.

I had an old Kraford “low pro” ambi cheek rest laying around that I wasn’t using. It was extremely uncomfortable to use in its stock form. In fact, I don’t believe K&L sells them anymore. I found some nylon plastic bar on Amazon to make a spacer. This gave me the added height needed. Also got some longer M3 screws and high density foam for comfort. I drilled the spacer using a drill press but a hand drill would work too if you can drill straight or just oversize the holes. The spacer is installed between the cheek rest and top rail so you don’t really see it when all is finished. Took me about an hour to put together and now my Impact is even more pleasing to shoot.

Excellent work, John. I'll never understand why ALL manufacturers don't design their guns (stocks) as ambidextrous straight from the factory for us left-side shooters. Like you, I would always leave bolt/cocking lever on the right thereby never moving your left trigger finger other than to rest it on the trigger guard as cycle the next round. You should forward your design upgrade to Fredrick Axelsson, a lefty himself..Question: Does the magazine rest under your cheek when you shoulder your Wildcat..?
