Weight and amount of propellent air pressure is more important than slugs vs. pellets in a springer. You can obtain some slugs that are as light as pellets. Personally I don't think the gun cares one way or the other.

To me it's just "X" amount of air pressure pushing "X" amount of weight down an "X" inch long barrel. Since it's all lead, I don't think there's any appreciable difference in performance...given the same weight of projectile.

It is entirely possible someone might disagree...that's ok! People tend to overthink such things, unless you are shooting competitively...again, that's just my opinion, having shot both. Everyone's mileage is going to vary on such a broad question.
