Just an interesting comparison

Ballistics and retained energy of the .25 Kings and the 15.5 .177 slugs. Look at the energy at 100 and beyond. Look at the vertical... Just interesting. I shoot the .25 Kings at 855 and the .177 slugs at 926.

Very good JW, does bring about curiosity. Personally I would like to see a more of an apple to apple comparison as in a 30 fpe pellet comparing to 30 fpe slug in the same caliber or the likes of .25 pellet to .25 slug.

I hope yourself and others continue providing such information. These are exciting times! I have yet to shoot slugs in any of my air rifles, but tomorrow is another day, we shall see.

Thanks for sharing, much appreciated.

Cheers

You got the point of my post. There simply is no comparison. If the .177 slugs compare to .25 pellets like this, it is pretty clear that in the same caliber the gap will only increase... dramatically.

That said, I still prefer pellets inside of 80 yards🤔

Seems many of those who have researched this state the same-slug advantages don't appear until longer ranges. I have a few boxes of slugs to play with but most of my air gun shooting is 50-60 yards and less so slugs don't have a lot of appeal to me. Others sure seem to love them.

Here's part of a 60 yard test I did last spring. I found that once all the info. was listed together some things started to stand out. To me anyway. The amount of energy/velocity lost at only 60 yards by diablo designs compared to slugs starts to really show. The 5+ FPE at the muzzle for the 33.95gr. is eye catching. I just found the bracketed area shows me what only 60 yards of air does to each pellet/slug.

Seems to well illustrate the actual range discussed here and elsewhere as a possible separation point distance for the utility of pellets vs. slugs. I've read reports of the accuracy of pellets being the same if not better than slugs at distances inside 100 yards. The slug BC advantage is showing up at that 60 yard range, as your data shows above, and then should increase the slugs utility beyond that point. But out to that 60 yard range the slug doesn't seem to provide a major useful advantage, especially considering what seems to be overall a noticeably higher price for slugs vs. pellets. For my use (all shooting well inside 100 yards and not much beyond 50 yards), no advantage seems to exist for slugs. Certainly others needs may be different and slugs may be the best thing since sliced bread.
