JSB Exact .30 cal 50.15gr 4 tins sorted by weight

I took the liberty of sorting these JSB 50.15 grain pellets by weight in preparation of my FX Impact 30 caliber arrival tomorrow. Some are saying these are not as accurate as the 44.7 grain JSBs, but arrived first to the door. With my typical hunting range less than 100 yards, and more like 50 yards or less, these should do well.

After sorting these, I am not quite sure where the "Exact" comes into play. Maybe they meant in accuracy at the intended target?

I'll explain what's going on in the chart:

Starting in the "Master List" column, you can see the total weight spread for the four tins was 2.06 grains (48.28 to 50,34). The total count is 610 pellets, so they tossed in a couple of extras.

Looking at the "Left Row" column are the ones that fell below the primary weights of 49.xx grains, and are the 48.xx base weights with a total spread of 0.70 grains and a total count of 52.

In the "Main Sort" column are the primary 49.xx weights with a total spread of 0.98 grains (49.00 to 49.98), and with a total count of 538. You can see how those broke down in 0.20 grain increments in the "49.xx count" areas, and is how they are placed back in the tins.

The last "Right Row" column are the ones above 49,xx grains and are the 50.xx grain pellets. 20 total with a spread of 0.34 grains (50.00 to 50.34), also broken down in the 50.xx counts area into 0.20 increments.

I am fairly happy with these tins being mostly all in one base weight (49,xx), but are far short of the advertised 50.15 grain. There are only two that could be possibly be labeled at that specific weight. These are a lot better than what the MKIIs were, but only 4 tins compared verses 8 tins of those (see my previous posts).

I'll give them a whirl and see how well they do for my needs with the 700mm pellet liner. Worst case for me is that they will be melted down and recast for my .357 Slayer slugs I am already setup for.

Wooow! Thanks for the work u do for us!

that difference aren’t less!

ive also an Impact X .30 but after all what I’ve heard that they shoot the 50grains not that good like 44s I stayed on 44s.

have u done some accuracy shooting after sorting?

Regards

Patrick

Thanks Patrick! I needed something to do while watching YT videos of the 30 cal. MKII 700mm, Lol. No testing just yet. The airgun should arrive in the mail tomorrow sometime. I plan on cleaning the barrel and trying lubed and unlube to see what I can do with them.

Have you tried the Edgun 44.75 and 50 grain pellets in .30? I think they're made by JSB, biut there might be fewer dies involved..so mabye tighter tolerances? IDK.

Not sure if they're closer in weight, but the 44.75s have been really accurate for me. Ground squirrels hate them out to 155 yards. ;-)

Ha ha, no, this will be my first experience with .30 caliber and FX. I just hope the gun arrives in one piece. Thanks for the tips though! I am sure I will get around to trying all kinds of projectiles eventually.

You’re welcome!

haha ok that’s a serious reason!

ah ok let me know what u get accuracy wise with the 50s.

ive the mkI .30 with the 700mm, mine is shooting the lubed a tad better than the unlubed, just my feeling. Have no serious testing done.

I just posted something on the 50.15gr JSBs last night around their sensitivity. They can be a bugger to get shooting well, but you probably won't experience too many issues with accuracy with an Impact (they aren't as picky as some other barrels).

However, sorting by head size and skirts is much more important. That has made ALL of the difference for me in the past. Once you identify the head diameter that works best, you will be rewarded with some very stellar groups (more like a single hole).

EDIT: I would also urge you to test with and without a moderator, and compare accuracy.

Awesome! Thanks for the tips.

Though they may not shoot as well as the 44s on paper, those 50s are still good enough for minute of squirrel head. Yo!

That's what I am thinking. There are plenty of volunteers, but unless causing an issue they do get a pass.

I bought a sizing die from noe and pushed them through by hand .

Thanks! I do have a press and Noe setup. I might have to find that particular die bushing.

I wanted to ask...What about the skirts being sized down in the die? I know some thinner walled skirts can expand on initial blast, but some pellet skirts are fairly thick and is asking a lot is my thinking.

Okay, I now have the .299 plus other sizes to size these .30 cal 50 grainers and others. Just by hand and pushing through, the .298 sure feels good for these 50.15gr, but will try the other sizes as well. I have been having good luck sizing the .25 cal MKIIs. I will be waiting on my power plenum to arrive before testing starts as I want to test well above 900 FPS.
