JSAR Raptor Mini .22/.30 - Hajimoto Future Evaluation

thank You for the nice words Molder and Haj.! I did run into an issue. and it took a little head scratching. However, it is an issue with this Mini and this Mini only. Remember it is a prototype and not fully ironed out. customers versions will be Much more highly refined.

My version does not have the refined trigger, Tensioned barrel yet, (have my own barrel in it as my Barrel is not ready yet, and was delivered with The way Travis really likes his. tiny 200 cc bottle. Travis likes a very lite walk around gun. I like a bit more weight and more air. I installed a 500 cc cf bottle and a 19 1/2 " barrel which is a bit longer than the normal Mini barrel.

the more refined trigger, and installation of the Tensioned barrel will make and already accuate Mini outstanding!

It did arrive with a pellet barrel that is tensioned, and it was instantly the most accurate pellet shooter I have ever shot in .22. . And I have shot a LOT! What shocked me the most was that the low budget Crosman/Wally World offerings were one pellet size hole at 30 yards, 3'8" at 50 yards and still well under an inch at 80 yards. this with no adjustment what so ever to the gun. the Crosmans were leaving at a touch over 900 fjps. This was 10 shot groups. Many went in 1/2 or less.

The 39 grain NOE CC1 slugs that I have cast for it are going into groups of 3/4" at the 80 yard range at 920's for mid 70's in fpe. I have another slutg that I cast a few for it from a mold that I do not own. It is an Arsenal copy of the 257420 in .224. I decked the mold for Hobbyman2007 and it is in his possession now. He is using it in another modded gun that he installed an FX slug liner in. We are both getting excelent accuracy from this bullet. It i a 29 gr slug, and not so accurate in the barrel of mine in Rainstorm in the 880's range. However, it is now in the hi 990's t 1020's in the Mini and a true laser! Beautiful flight characteristics. Sadly, I only have this mold in .25. GRRRRR!!!

What shocked me was that it out shot the 39 grain slug in very high winds today. Still thinking this one thru. Stumped at the moment.

I was really wanting to try more of the NOE offerings, however the store has been bare of .22 mods for quite some time now. I really appreciate what Swede of NOE is doing for airgunners as a mold maker, as I appreciate what casters and swagers are doing. I have offerings from NSA (Nick), and Air Velocity Sports (Stephen) with nice verity from both for testing. Just waiting on proper barrels. The .22 barrel I have ordered from JSAR is a bit different from the norm. Anxiously awaiting both it and the .250 barrels. I have a .172 to prep and test as well. Just gotta pace myself a bit. LOL

I also have a MP Molds which is an 8 cavity mold here in the shop from a fellow GTA member for testing as well. It is a Mold designed for the Huben and designed by Gregor K.

Just getting started. Lead on Haji! So much to cover and even more to learn!! ;<) A labor of Love Sir!

Now if this darned wind would just die for a while. Grrrrrr+ Tax!

As you can see, I kinda killed my spinner designed for pellets. LOL! I have my witness with me as well.

Many will wonder "Why such a high set up. Back surgery and old age). LOL

Knife..y’all killed those spinners! LOL! Great shooting sir 😉👍.

for those that wonder, I may have over stepped my bounds posting here in Haj's post. I did not intend to thread hijack, I simply wanted to wet some appetites while anxiously awaiting Haj's test and Vid's. I in no way do anywhere as nice a job of really showing the true virtues of an airgun the Haj. Does. He is a master at what he does.

Haj. is a real Engineer, while I am just an Air gun Loving Hack! ! ;<)

just keep it REAL!! i think thats what most of us want to see, but thats just my opinion

True that Sir! anything else is useless as far as Haj. and I are concerned. ;<)

Ranchaibi, Thank you Sir! Having a lot of fun with it. Time to go out to the shop and cast some more.

Banker, Hey Stephen!. Yep, not much at that price point that will not go darker @ higher mag. The all do, even the most expensive optics. But there is a huge difference in optical quality an cost for quality optics.

I am thinking of selling my Zeiss. Not enough mag. but outstanding optics.

Mike/Knife.

Hey Haji, I noticed that as you increase the magnification the image gets significantly darker. How does this scope compare to the Discovery Vtt 6-24? I really like the reticle. How does the image look at 27x overall the scope seems great at that price point.

Scopes always get darker as the mag increases. Low priced glass is rarely good at 30x+ magnification, but usually it's OK at 24x. Darker at 27x is to be expected.

I initially ordered one of these scopes with my gun (yet to be delivered). The issue that I have is with the advertised 1/10 M.O.A. markings on the turrets. That's unlikely based on the design of the scope. It's been months and no one has been able to confirm the actual clicks. It's likely that the scopes turrets are mislabeled.

The reticle is mil, and the turrets are more likely 1/10 mil, not 1/10 M.O.A.

It would be nice to hear from someone who has this scope, and actually uses click values when zeroing/adjusting their scope. Hopefully Haji will be able to verify it for us.

Brother Knife, you ain't hijacked sh!t
You should know by now, that you are of the very limited group of cats that has no has no limits to what you say or do in my posts, conversation or otherwise.

You are working a Raptor and this post was nothing more than my introduction to my Raptor mini. I intended this thread to be a thread that folks may ask questions which any and all Raptor information holders can contribute to, especially you.

Its all love baby! Besides we are all talking about keeping it real and I live that life.
So if we are keeping it real, It will be years before I learn what you have forgotten bro

Hey man, Scotchmo nailed it my dude. The reason i stopped at 24x is that is where I think the optical fade is at its limit.

I would say it is on par with the VTT but I love the wider FOV offered by the 4.5. So think of it as a 4.5-24x50 FFP. I will be talking about it as I put the Raptor through its paces at the range and during my review.

Scotchmo, thanks for that response. I want to pair the Raptor with an optic worthy of this gun. I plan to shoot 200+ yards off a bench or prone. Currently thinking about athlon etr 4.5-30x56. about $1150 i currently have the MTC Viper pro 5-30 and a Discovery 5-30. The MTC is half the cost and the Discovery is a third the cost of the Athlon. Is the Athlon ETR worth the extra cost? I'm mostly concerned with the quality of the glass at 30x . Thank you!

Haji, thank you for confirming. I'm so looking forward to your review.

Knife, sounds like the more you spend the better the glass is at higher magnifications.

Other than the magnification range, those other scopes mentioned can't compare to the ETR. You'd have to ("see"/ED glass) how well that ETR turned out to really appreciate it, the distinct feel of the clicks, and sound of the clicks, that line up perfectly, the solid clunk of the zero stop, has locking windage knob, the just right feel of all the other controls, and the massive amount of elevation travel via 25moa/10 mil per rev!

A more fair way is to compare the ETR to Nightforce NX8, Vortex Razor2, Bushnell XRS2, that tier of scopes. The ETR also has UHD glass, so it's just a step down from highest end Zeiss, Swaro, Leica, etc/$2500-$3000, or two steps down from the best money can buy like Tangent Theta and ZCO which are 3-4 times the price of the ETR at $3600-$4700. So when one realises the huge value the ETR offers compared to these, it's astounding!!!

Nevertheless, I like the Ares BTR Gen2 because of the all .2 mil reticle, it's not quite in the ETR class but close. It is much better than the Gen1 version which lacked in a few ways.

Stephen, Yep, Quality cost and is apparent! Steve put it well I think. If I had the funds, it would be the IOR Valdada hands down for me. Man, what optics and build quality. Unreal.

If you get the chance, take a look at Cyclops vid's on Youtube on scope reviews. Man, he's tough on scopes. His pride and joy now, A Very nice Valdada.

Me, I just stuck with a poor o'l Zeiss. LOL

When you look at the very Top Tier Scopes, seems they all tell us theay have the very best glass. Schot Glass. Many Llst it as Shot Glass. HUH? Shot glasses are for drinking. Yes? What they don't tell you is that Schot is a division of ------Wait for it------

ZEISS!!! -----Woo-Hoo!!! Yep, even the IOR Valdada. ;<)

Most don't know anything about the top Zeiss brand what so ever as it is not called a Zeiss. It is a Hensolt. (Yeah, I spelled it wring. Far too rare to really know how to spell it, LOL) The Zeiss Military / Law Law Enforcement Sniper Scopes. and a civilian cannot buy one unless you have fantastic connections. GRRRR!!!

Your far too Generous Haj!

I did a little Experiment today. Made up some very short 18 gr slugs and tried them. Holy----, Far above the Sound Barrier. They were so short that I had to turn the Mini up-side-down just to keep them from wedging into the large port I have in the bbl. LOL I didn't bother with any accuracy test, as there was None. Grrrrr!

The FX Hibrid being hollow, will be much longer and will take care of that issue. That, or put a smaller port at 12 o'clock in the barrel which could then be index 180 deg. to be a pellet barrel when wanted. but then again, I don't shoot no stink'n pellets. (Well, I do, but I don't admit it. And even those I cast myself).;<)
