Joe Rhea... he's cool

I'll preface this by saying it's scope related so I'm posting it here but a mod can feel free to move to member feedback if they feel the need.

As some of you know, I just recently discovered modern precision airguns after an extended hiatus from shooting. Even with my former military shooting background, I felt like a doe-eyed newb... you lot were all so smart and I was stoopid. That's how I felt (what's a din300, what's bspp, a regulator, etc.) but the members here were quite welcoming and helpful.

So about a month ago, I was in the market for another scope and after watching some youtube vids, I sent a pm to that JoeWayneRhea bloke. He sends me an answer but he must hate typing because he adds his cell number and says "gimme a call." So I do. Now I'm no "people person" by any stretch of the imagination. That's the antithesis to what I am which is fine, I've accepted it over the years. But back to this phone call, after the initial greeting and jerking each other's chains over our respective southern accents (Carolina is clearly superior), we began to talk. And we talked... and talked... and talked. I'm not sure if he even remembers the call now but the only reason it eventually ended was due to his phone battery dying.

He answered every scope question I tossed his way and if he didn't know the answer, he said... (wait for it) "I don't know".

This guy is one of the most down-to-earth, friendly and helpful humans I've encountered so far. I've come to realize this forum has quite a few like that, they'll bend over backwards to help, teach and advise. Anyway, here's to you Joe. I hadn't forgotten the call, it just took me a while to bring it up and in case you're wondering, the topic title is a hat tip to the old Joe Walsh song, "Life's been good". Cheers buddy and if you ever make it to N Carolina, look me up.

Lol , yes I remember the call and TEXAN accent is clearly better !!! I appreciate the kind words for a one eyed man who has the attention span of a monkey on coke !!!

My Dad used to tell me the smartest thing he ever heard a man say was " I Don't Know " . I wish I could say it just to seem smarter ....But generally I'm just in the Dark 😂

The guys here on this forum are guys you can have a good grown up conversation with , and then turn up a beer and talk about sports and other silly poop .

I can't tell you how many times the guys here have co.e to the rescue when I've found myself dumbfounded by a Airgun problem. Great guys , and a really cool forum .

As a "Son of the Lone Star State" I have to side with Joe on the Texas accent...I have really enjoyed watching Joe's videos. I mean any man's Youtube channel which incorporates one of Ray Harryhausen's cyclops scenes from "The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad" gets my attention pronto. For that alone he's worthy and obviously qualified to discuss airgun scopes. Lol!

I'm afraid that Joe's was solely responsible for making me throw away (j/k) my new Vortex Diamondback FFP and then ordering a SWFA 3-15x42mm FFP MilRad...Thanks a lot Joe! (in whichever way you want to take that! lol! ). SWFA delivery tomorrow can't wait...if that clarifies my own feelings about it

I don't know...based on my own experience with depositions (no I'm not an attorney) its a phrase which definitely keeps one out of both the frying pan and the fire and actually improves ones credibility...

Now as to Monkeys on Coke...

"I believe our Heavenly Father invented man because he was disappointed in the monkey. I believe that whenever a human being, of even the highest intelligence and culture, delivers an opinion upon a matter apart from his particular and especial line of interest, training and experience, it will always be an opinion of so foolish and so valueless a sort that it can be depended upon to suggest our Heavenly Father that the human being is another disappointment and that he is no considerable improvement upon the monkey.”...Mark Twain, The Godfather of American Humor and Literature

I hardly think that Joe's opinions on scopes are foolish and of little value...ergo another disappointment averted!
