Jim Chapman is a brave guy.....

Yeah same here. Never had a single problem with any utg scope I’ve bought and I’ve had three different models. All where on pcp’s. Yeah the glass is not as good as my hawke scope or higher end glass. But it still hit everything where I was pointing it. They get the job done and don’t break the bank doing it. That’s what really matters.

I have several Bugbuster and other UTG scopes on several guns. Never had an issue with any but one and it came to me in a trade. It had a pinched optic image. Even though I got it in a trade UTG replaced it for no charge!  I also have Hawke Sidewinders, Vantage and Airmax 30's, MTC and Aztec scopes. All work well for their intended purposes. ALL come out of CHINA!

Most of my scopes have failed in the same way. The ocular bell gets loose/sloppy and then it won't hold POI. My UTG Accushot was the first to fail, Hawke Airmax second and Falcon Menace third. Only the Hawke was on a springer for a short time. My Leupold has not had this problem and expect it never will as it still has a threaded ring to secure the ocular.

You think it's brave to use a UTG scope?

I've bought probably over a dozen UTG scopes over the years. Mostly used on spring guns. I did return two for problems, but that was almost immediately after receiving them. In general, they work fine and are reliable long term. I traveled all over the USA for matches, and never had a problem with a UTG scope. Three of my class wins at AAFTA National FT matches were with UTG scopes, and two of those were on piston guns.

Most of my recent scope purchases are FFP scopes, but UTG scopes are all SFP, so I have not bought any UTG scopes in awhile.

They are certainly not the highest quality, but they are generally good for the $ spent, and suitable for airguns.

If worried that much about a scope failing (regardless of brand), risk aversion would dictate that I take precautions - I might bring a backup. But since I have never had a scope fail on an outing, I don't.

Hi guys, First let me say I have a lot of scopes ....many Hawkes, MTC, Nikon, Vortex, Athlon, and others as well as. I also have a lot of rifles, about 75 or so, and like to keep them ready to shoot, which means keeping them scoped. So part of it is economics, the Leapers UTG are a very good value. But that wouldn’t matter if they didn’t perform. I find the glass quality pretty good (better than the price would suggest), I like the reticles, and in my experience they have been rugged and reliable. they’re also not bad in low light conditions. I’ve had a couple failures over the years, but I can say the with all the manufacturers, except maybe the MTC. I also like their mounts, finding them rugged and secure. If I’ve had a Leapers on my AirForce Texan on the range, when I grab the gun to go on a hunt I just don’t see a reason to change it. No, they are not the best optical quality, some scopes are better in low light, but I don’t think there’s a better value, I trust them, and I don’t ever feel like they don’t perform well enough. As an aside, when using the SideShot Camera, the courser crosshairs come out on video better than a lot of high end scopes with very fine crosshairs. Anyways, that’s my read on it.
