JB Books revisited

Well, I posted pics of my new Umarex/Colt SAA a while back. I had to send the XL Slouch hat back for being 1/2" over measurement. This style of western hat was popular in the 1880's. I wanted to have it reblocked to look like the one JB Books wore in The Shootist (John Wayne). But I changed my mind. I decided to invent a characer just like hollywood does when they want to extend a movie. Enter JB's brother, Daniel Banes Books. There are always vengeful brothers that seem to ride forever. I also recently won at auction two Daisy 1894 30-30's that are NOS! The NRA centennial and 1894 Winchester centennial Limited Edition. Got the hat and 19th century quick-draw holster from historicalemporium.com The western diamondback rattler hat band is from silverhillstrading.com

They have all the men's & women's 19th century western cloths, hats, gun belts, canes, watches, etc you could ever want. I want to put together something similar to Books' outfit he wore through most of the movie. They do western airgun shootin' stuff too that I've begun to notice. Western outfit a bonus. Get some SAA's in BP Long Colt for reenacting I have my eyes on too.

The antique bronze NRA Centennial is on top, 1871-1971. The Winchester Limited Edition Centennial is 4th one down, 1894-1994 with fat octagon barrel. Both are NOS I won on the auctions recently.

If the felt in that hat proves too soft to reblock, you can also find a good replica of the JB Books hat from other sources, OR you can buy the basic hat to your crown and brim specs and have it custom blocked...the basic hat looks pretty much like the 'Billy Jack' hat...round crown, flat brim...You might also be able to still purchase good felt stiffener in any state than California, to help it keep its shape. Good luck, I like your gear...

Thanks for the tips, yarddog. and glad you like my bit of western collection Joe. ** I changed the first two pics to what it/I look like now. The rattle snake hat band was $87.83 @ silverhillstrading.com in Tombstone, AZ. How's that for a cool cowboy shop?! I also changed my mind fairly quickly about my character. See the original post for that.

Okay, I collected up some more gear for my DB Books reenacting character. I got a waistcoat from the UK in lambskin leather. About the same color as Ben Cartwright's. I also got a narrower concealed carry belt with optional brass buckle from Midway USA that looks like JB's. I also got a gold pocket watch similar to his real 19th century one. So here's some more update pics.
