IZH46 vs 46M

Longer compression tube. The M is the later model.

Most of the club shooters I have known have used them at one time, or another, but swear by their earlier models. The M ran its compression tube out further but shifted the weight much further forward. The 5/8 inch does not look much, but when the mechanics of the lever and pivot was shifted forward, it really impacted the pleasant balance of the earlier model. Many felt the extra 60 fps was not worth it. Another shooter said he could easily tweak his earlier model to within 40 fps of the longer model, but it would not blast out the O ring on dry fires..

Barrel length and sight base length were not altered..

I never really got on with it myself....Too much length running out ahead of a quite awkward grip. Not nice handling at all....It was accurate though and a lot swear by them...just me maybe.

Agreed, It was easier to manage. Its a few years ago, but i think the original velocity figures were 430 fps versus 485fps for the M with R10 pellets, but where most of the M versions were making little better than 460fps at the club.

The strange one in favour of the M is cocking power was not altered. If you look carefully you can see the lever stem which protrudes out of the base of the cylinder in front of the trigger guard. You will notice it is longer in length. This allowed the cocking effort to be the same...but of course, this all added extra mass.

The 46 and 46M eventually disappeared from the club with the advent of these new PCP pistols. A club charging compressor was purchased to make things easier for everyone which could have been the main reason, but for self contained home shooters, I suppose it is ok.

Uglyjohn, you are a lefty. It's the custom grips you are after. Lol.

Oh man I do love the look of your gun (and your shooting “park”). My want for a 46/46M flares up from time to time. The hang up is the cost ( gun, LH grips, scope and mount etc) vs how much I’d actually use it. Thanks for posting the pics though......I think😫. Uj
