Issue with Taipan Veteran Long

If you decock it with a pellet still in the barrel you HAVE TO REMOVE THE MAGAZINE OTHERWISE YOU WILL DOUBLE LOAD IT next time you cock it.

Edit!

I haven't decocked with a live round in the chamber and tried to cock it again with a loaded magazine because this goes against all I experienced however the Taipan Vet may be unique. How does the gun know it's decocked and not fired the shot? As to not index the next round in the magazine?

I have always just removed the magazine when miss that shot opportunity.

I understand your aversion, but it works flawlessly. Plus, the mag is in clear view to confirm that it's not moving.....it works.

Not sure how it knows but it knows. On my .25 Vet. I can decock and recock without removing the magazine with no double loading. Magazine won't index until actually fired. Maybe air pressure from the shot cycle resets the indexing mechanism?

Ha ha I just tried and INDEED CAN BE DECOCKED with a pellet in the barrel then not double load the next round. The magazine won't move no matter how many times I tried to decock and load a double load!!!

Just did it purposely trying to double load and decock with pellet in the barrel and it wouldn't no matter how many times I tried to intentionally do it.This has got to be the most well thought out system I have ever seen!!!

The mechanism is reset when the trigger is pulled and the hammer is sent on it's way.

That's how it "knows"

I feel SO STUPID taking the magazine out all this time even knowing well in advance it has an anti double feed! I just thought it was only for in case you accidentally double cock in the field and not for decock!

Thanks for the making me see the light!

Don’t worry about double loading with your Taipan Veteran, the magazine will not cycle (index) until the gun is fired. Sonny and Likkitysplyt are applying their knowledge of other air guns. The Taipan veterans have an anti-double load technology that most other PCP do not have, making this platform VERY safe as compared to other PCP. Follow what ehl0102’s advice regarding field use.

Cocking...its that last little bit of travel that cocks the hammer.

I stand corrected and thank you🙏

Curly you had it 99% cocked,,just a little more and the trigger would have latched,,,,you are just a little unsure for 1st time user

you said,,,It felt as if there was a big spring holding it back from full reward travel. The magazine center pin retracted as it should, but the pellet insertion pin was not coming back far enough to insert the magazine. What could cause this to bind like this?

the answer is: the hammer spring,it is a stiff spring, springy resistance is normal, as long as you still are feeling the springy resistance you are ok

You’re a dork, Yo! 🤣

OK,

Lowering hammer spring tension 1/2 turn was the trick! I am sure that I was also a little hesitant to pull the cocking lever too much also. Rifle is functioning perfectly and cycling. Now to pour some lead down the barrel and get myself used to the trigger, which breaks quite nicely! first five shots with my Athlon Midas BTR consistently low about 10 MOA and to the left about 2 MOA at 10 yards. Going to zero at 25 yards and start getting data on POI out to 60-65 yards(my limits in backyard). Does 25 yards sound like a good starting point to set zero given my confinements? It is a 25 cal if I didn't mention that earlier. A big thank you to all that gave input! Sincerely appreciated!

Oh and quite quiet with the DonnyFL Sumo as well! The pellet impact made more sound than the rifle! Very happy and I hope the neighbors will be too!

One caution regarding the Anti-double loading feature of the Taipan Veteran, don’t ask how I know...I just do.

In a hunting situation I was on the way out of the woods walking back to my vehicle. Noticed a squirrel running the limbs in a tree, but could not get the crosshairs settled for a shot....Squirrel just disappeared! As they are so good at in the wild. Anyway after several minutes I de-cock and continue to my vehicle, it’s the last pellet in the mag, which is now in the breech. At vehicle while taking off hunting coverups etc. got a phone call...removed the mag, packed my gun in its case and drive home. A few days later got the gun out for some target practice and loaded mag with pellets, inserted and cocked the gun pushing another pellet in the breech on top of the one left after the recent hunting session. I did notice that I needed a little more force and realized what had happened. To clear I de-cocked, removed the LCD and shroud, and fired them out down range.

The resolution is to just leave the mag in the gun as an indication that there may be a pellet in the breech, aim in a safe direction and fire. I hope this is helpful.
