No "pitfalls" with my Maverick. Just keep it full of air and shoot.
I always dig in and all some light "gun" oil to all of the rotating (pivot points) and sliding locations. Not only does it make that joint move easier, it also helps keep the metal from galling (metal transfer) after time.
Another thing, is to adjust the trigger to your liking. You'll never get good if you don't like the way that the trigger action is.
That's all I've done to mine. Many folks get carried away with adjustments and loose the baseline, and then have a hard time "liking" their gun. Do yourself a favor, a little oil, a little trigger adjustment, and shoot it. Leave the other adjustments to...others that adjust, more than they shoot..!
