Is the Sig Sauer Asp 20 the most accurate break barrel?

According to Tom Gaylords blog on February 17, they are no longer being made. From what I’ve read, you couldn’t get parts for them even while Sig was still making them. And they have a plastic trigger. I’m spoiled by the triggers on my Weihrauchs.

This is what I feared.

However, to answer the question about accuracy, my .177asp20 comes VERRY close to my hw97 under 50 yards. It was a harder gun for me to learn to shoot well, but I am comparing a break barrel to a world class under lever that is dramatically less powered. I have many groups where my asp outperforms my 97, but on a whole the 97 is more accurate.

The lagging area is the trigger. It is no rekord, but the matchlight sig trigger is a very well purpose-built trigger perfect for a hunter. It is not a plastic trigger, but a metal trigger covered with a polycarbonate sleeve from my understanding. The fit and finish for me are perfect for a hunting gun that you don't mind to ding up a little while hunting.

So I guess it's true! No more asp20's !! Wonder why ? I might call them today.

I have seen the reviews of the Sig, and its looks impressive. I do however have a Beeman R1 in .20 and another in .22 with comparable power, and I would put both of them up against that gun at 100. I also think that the fit and finish is much better. I have heard that they are were going to stop making that model under the Beeman name, but the HW80 is available, same action with European stock.

SIG airgun dept aren't thinking about their long term customers who may need replacement parts or service when they nix their models with no after sales support.

Think again b4 buying this brand.

Invisible hand of the market strikes again. I suppose that answers the accuracy question definitely more than anything else

Don't think it answers the accuracy question. WAAAY too many other factors at play.

I can tell you my particular asp is a tack driver out to near 50 yards. Doesn't quite match my HW97, but then again they are two different platforms entirely. If I had just one of my springers that I was forced to choose as my hunter, it would be the asp.

To anyone who has shot the asp 20 or owns it, how is the recoil on it? I understand that it is no longer being made which means no support or spare parts but it will be collectible. Just thought it would be a cool gun to own and not shoot all the time. I’d rather own that asp 20 than a Gamo if they are as accurate as the reviews show.

I have a tough time when it comes to defining recoil in a Springer. I have a firearms background, so these guns produce nothing that I would describe as recoil....

Having said that, I'd think my recoil FEELS most similar to my d48 (maybe a little more kick to the sig, but the sig also produces more FPE as well), but the shot cycle speed matches more closely my hw97....the pellet seems to spend far less time in the barrel of my sig than almost any of my other springers. The cycle is also quite smooth compared to my other springers, but may be due to it being a gas ram. Both my d48 and asp have broken a springer rated scope.

As far as shooting it, I have put over 10,000 rounds through it, and it performs exactly as new. Snug as a bug in a rug..

Mine may not be in the same power league, but accuracy wise, it’s way up there . Here’s my Walther LGV in .22 at 30 yards with 14gr JSBs.
