Is it the bad vibe they sense?

It must be that I’m putting off a bad vibe when I spot a starling or squirrel around here because it’s uncanny how they seem to know what’s up lol! Yesterday I was getting ready for a few starlings that had snuck in to feed with some blackbirds I never shoot. Seems almost like as soon as I spotted them from the window they were aware somehow ha ha! And as soon as I started to slide the window open the starlings were all standing at attention and one gave that low whirring sound and they were gone. Maybe I need to be thinking happy thoughts as I slide open the window instead of intense predator mode lol. I swear they are able to pick up on “intense predator mode”. Maybe I’ll try wearing the same colored dress that the neighbor lady wears because she doesn’t scare the starlings at all.

90 % of my shooting is done from inside my house. I’ve made “shooting ports “ in three different windows. The ports have an insert that pops or slides out. It’s a lot quieter than sliding open my squeaky windows. Here is the one in my living room. It’s actually polycarbonate. The others I made are if thin Masonite.

I live out in the country and see the same thing from all sorts of critters. I have an old delapidated shed that is over 100 yds from the back of my house. There is a mulberry tree on the far side that attracts the starlings and cowbirds, which in turn draws the numerous ferral cats along with ground hogs. If I open my very quiet back door they all come to attention, if I do not have a gun they return to their task at hand and I can walk within 50 yds, however....if I have a rifle in hand, I dont get 10 ft out the door and they are all gone!!! Even tried making the rifle not noticible, but it does no good. How they know from almost 125 yds is beyond me!!!!!
