Is anyone else burned out on people passing judgment on killing varmints?

A few people on this forum have decided it’s their job to judge others and their decisions.

They love to tell people that they are shooting too far. Or that they didn’t take the right shot. Or that they shouldn’t publish that video because it’s not a perfect kill.

These are Varmints… we are trying to get rid of them. If you don’t like it, don’t read the posts. And certainly don’t share your comments, and wreck the post.

You’re not going to change us, any more than we’re going to change you. So could we just have one place that we can post our hunting pictures and stories without a lot of BS?

Could you just keep your opinions to yourself, and quit trying to be the Conscience of worldwide Airgun shooting?

Well, if I were plagued with just pesky, invasive, paper targets, I'd be happy to comply, but unfortunately, the paper targets aren't near as destructive as the other pesky varmints, so my pellets will be directed toward the bigger problem! I will say that I am much more capable of getting perfect shot placement on a paper target that's firmly attached to an immobile back-stop than I am some critters, that by their very nature, refuse to sit still! Yea, shame on me for not being able to guaranty that perfect shot placement on a mobile/moving target, as I can on an immobile/stationary paper target! So, maybe those who are so concerned about shot distance/placement/etc, should stick with shooting paper targets in their basement at 10 yards!!!!

I removed a post because of someone doing what your talking about. Unfortunately, some properties around my parents home, as well as my own home have had Groundhog problems. While I am always sure that I shoot in a safe direction, and know what is beyond my target, they don't always provide the more ethical shot placement when they present themselves in the open. I have full permission of all involved neighbors to eliminate with extreme prejudice, so I will not pass up a lung shot that will allow them to make it back to their burrow( I call that self-burial). Sometimes they present a perfect shot and you really hammer them.

Mike, That sounds reasonable to me. However, let's not let those harming themselves by breaking laws or doing unethical things ruin it for the rest of us. There are a lot of newcomers to this sport that do not have a clue just yet. Are we to just let them run around like a chicken with its head cut off or TRY and help them out. Some may actually listen...you never know.

I agree killing is not pretty. I have had plenty that did not go as planned. It happens and is reality which some have trouble with and display that.

Hypocrisy is one of those things that is really easy to see in the other fellow. About the only thing that gets in the way of seeing it for them is that chicken wing they are eating. I take particular pleasure in explaining to them that they have to consume organic material to survive. If they want to continue to live, something must die so that they can eat it.

Me, I have carefully examined myself and if there is any hypocrisy there, I can't see it. ;)

Okay, I have a REAL problem with people who go out of their way to get offended, I don’t care what it is about. Whether it is hunting, politics, guns, views, religion, etc, etc. I am not saying stick your head in the sand, but don’t come here or i.e. YouTube with a “Holier than Thou” attitude leaving threats, judgements and etc comments to the content makers. A couple of YouTubers I know tell me about the comments, threats against them and their families they get, and this is not tolerable. Threatening someone and / or their family because you don’t agree with their content is not tolerable.

@flintsack is right about many things and also, others, none of us are perfect and we all take the shot in the wrong time, or power too low for job, and etc.

Also, if you DON’T approve of pesting / hunting, READ THE DAMN REMINDER POSTED WITH THE LINK:

Presuming those whining about pesting / hunting can actually spell the word and/or know the proper definition of graphic. Some of our members might well be graduates of schools which use the common core curriculum; wherein the only definition of 'graphic' they ever encountered pertains to visual art, especially involving drawing, engraving, or lettering:

graphic noun
Definition of graphic (Entry 2 of 3)
1 a: a product of graphic art
bgraphics plural : the graphic media
2 a: a graphic representation (such as a picture, map, or graph) used especially for illustration
His presentation included a number of informational graphics.
b: a pictorial image displayed on a computer screen
the program's graphics are impressive
c graphics plural in form but singular or plural in construction : the art or science of drawing a representation of an object on a two-dimensional surface according to mathematical rules of projection
3 graphics plural in form but singular or plural in construction : the process whereby a computer displays graphics
4: a printed message superimposed on a television picture

You summed up my perspective on this nicely. I'm a newcomer to the forums, but I've been hunting with airguns for nearly three years now --- and I'm quite sure that's seconds compared to some here. That said, before I put anything with a heartbeat in my crosshairs, I did lots and lots of paper-punching at all kinds of distances and shooting positions. It raises my hackles when people openly brag about making chancy shots outside their skill level.

Posting a contrary opinion is NOT necessarily passing judgment. The hunting part of the forum is no different then any other part of it to the best of my understanding. I’ve posted my opinions about what I think are ethical uses for air rifles but I’ve also tried to add that I’m basing my opinions on my experiences and my skills stating that others may be able to do better. I’ve also stated that I’ve had pigeons fly off and GH’s get back in their holes regardless of the weapons used. It happens but reason would dictate less often with more powerful ( using what would commonly be considered more appropriate guns) . I haven’t read every post on the hunting forum but I haven’t seen anything which I would consider judgmental. Perhaps I missed it . Maybe quoting what you found offensive specifically would be of benefit? I’m for freedom of speech and frankly enjoy contrary opinions. What’s the value of a post followed by ten “ agrees” I say let it run as it will and if you find it judgmental ignore it or call them out.

Even though there is a minimum age to own airguns (18, I believe) ...apparently, AGN does not have a minimum age to sign up here. I suspect many of the ... um, ... (ahem)... 'conscientious objectors' we see at the threads of the hunting forum are basically ... children.

Children who lack the experience some of the rest of us have. Children w/ daddy issues, (we all know at least one of those, don't we? Not necessarily here at AGN either). Children who equate Daisy Red Ryder's w/ AR-15 assault rifles.

And yeah, some of these kids are pretty mean too. Some are rebelling. Some have something to prove. W/ major chips on their shoulders.
