Iron Sight Picture Preference???

The traditionally taught method with a post type front sight was to leave a little white between the top of the post and the bottom of the bull for the reasons that have been mentioned. But for all things shooting the only rule is whatever works best. I seem to have trouble leaving the sliver of white because I can't keep it consistent in size. Big sliver, small sliver, I can't tell the difference. So I wait until the bull appears to be ballanced on top of the post. And on the topic of posts, I much prefer the flat top "Patridge" to a bead. Getting two circles to appear to be just touching is hard for me. But again, whatever works! Try it both ways.

10m ? Post touching 6 oclock.

Sporting sights are different. Sometimes the bead covers the target/ point of impact. We don't normally see this type on adult airguns Anymore.

BTW if you are shooting pistol the target will not be in focus. Only the sight post is in focus. Do shooters see the thin white space with pistol? I never did. I don't know how that would work with an out-of-focus target.

Diopter sights on a rifle yield a greater depth of field so maybe it's different there. I forget and can't see all that anymore! But I know the sight and target are sharper. Is that when you use the white space to gauge?

I shot mostly 10m pistol. Not much rifle at all. I found pistol to be very satisfying.

All I know for sure is the older I get: the better I was!
