Interesting and unexpected pellet results

Beautiful very still day here so I decided to do a bit of shooting. I had not shot the HW44 in a while and I wanted to remove the laser I had put on it and remount the scope. I have several of the 2-7 UTG pistol scopes and see through mounts so that open sights can be used at closer range. I rezeroed the pistol with what had long been the favorite pellet for that gun-7.33 AA Falcons. Very accurate as the HW44 platform always seems to be. But I decided to try some of the pellets that I had "hoarded" recently. I had several types on hand including a large lot of match R10 wadcutters that I got on sale as well as a couple of containers of the bulk Vogel wadcutters along with the more common AA, JSB, and H&N pellets. My HW44 is not pellet picky in general and shoots many types pretty well, though points of impact can vary quite a bit.

I decided to start with what I viewed as the least likely to shoot well, some "low cost" pellets that I had again bought a large lot of while they were on sale. Imagine my surprise to find these throw away pellets shooting the tightest groups of any I have tried and to basically the same POI as the "favorite" pellets. These cheap pellets are visibly the least well made of any type I have. Not bad on the head but with relatively distinct parting lines that extend to the skirt and usually show as a slight bump at the skirt edge. These "plinking" pellets shot so well at my 25 yard zero distance that I shot 10 rounds at a 2" plate hanging in a tree at 65 yards. A pistol with front end bag rested and with a rear pad under grip so very stable. First two shots missed just low and left using the single holdover line on that scope. Then I held that same mark just off the top right edge of the target and hit 3 consecutive shots. 1 miss that I couldn't see, then 4 more consecutive hits. To say that I was surprised at this performance would be an absolutely extreme understatement. Both for the pistol and the pellets, considering the distance.

So I decided to try these disposable pellets in the HW100, which had always shot the AA 7.33's and 8.4's equally well and would always hit the above mentioned 2" 65 yard target every shot with no wind. The HW100 is an amazingly accurate rifle. I don't believe that the groups were quite as tight as the best pellets for that rifle but the difference was basically inconsequential. Still an every shot hit on the same 2" plate at 65 yards as with the "best" pellets.

What were these throw away plinking pellets? The Crosman 7.9 CPHP in 500 count tins. Now I have to try them in the LGU.
