Intenseaty22's .177 WC...The Saga

Have you tried loading and closing the bolt home then open the cocking handle remove magazine push the pellet out see if there's skirt damage to all 8 pellets? Wooden dowel muzzle loader style. Use the 10.34gr JSBs to test they got thin skirts. The heavy Monsters aren't prone to such squashing due to their thicker skirts. Look for skirt damage.

What is odd is that it shoots well and suddenly The accuracy is gone, but seems impossible to determine the reason of what causes the accuracy problem.

Let me give you an idea, shot through your scope cam and see if your pellets are going straight, document every shot because I can’t tell you how many times I figure out the problem after just reviewing the footage in slow motion. It might help...

So you hand loaded (with a dowel? Or a golf tee?) so the pellet probe never touched/pushed/damaged the 10.34gr thin skirts?

Something like that, yes. I mean, I did have to drive them home by closing the lever after the pellet was in. And again, I point to the silliness of it all. A while ago I posted a test with one of my guns, I think it was the Cricket. I literally bit the skirts down, hard. I bent them out of shape pretty good. The gun shot them pretty darn accurately. Don't recall exact results, but I think it was basically not hole in hole, but like 1/2" or so. If I can find it I will attach below.

That's a good idea. May take me a while, but will try to do it and see if I can see any results. Thanks.

I understand about the barrel, I guess I have to chuck that to Mea Culpa. However, as far as I can tell the pellet probe is in good working condition. I have had the gun stripped down to almost the block. The pellet probe looks to be in perfect working condition, I could still be wrong, but it moves fluidly back and forth and doesn't seem to have any side play.

* & here is the thing, whatever is the culprit here, which I think is the barrel system, is not always repeatable. I have had some shooting sessions when it has been pellet on pellet, almost 3 magazines each going into 1/4" groups each. Then it all goes to hell without explanation. Tightens up again, or shoots a vertical 3/4" group and then a horizontal 1" group.

Try swapping out scopes.

Yup! Been there, done that. I took off the original scope and put on a trusted Hawke, same behavior. I then put the Talos on the Taipan, a trusted gun, and it's stacking the pellets just like it always does. Matter of fact I have wacked like 5 chipmunks this week alone at 27 to 33 yards, head shots only on critters whose head kill zone is about the size of a dime.

*Yes, all hardware tight, checked and double checked. The big hint for me is that the speeds are very tight out of the new regulator. To me it means everything is working as it should. Everything except consistency of accuracy.

Try a superior liner, it is slightly tighter than STX barrel and will reshape the pellet a little more. In .22 the superior barrel is nutty accurate with far less flyers for me even with the cheap crosman hollowpoint.

another suggestion is convert to 22 and get an AirArm or BSA .177. Them old Brits really know how to shoot .177.

btw have you tried single loading it to see if the mag causes the issue?

@qball Superior liner not available as of yet. I sent a PM to @fx asking about it and no reply either.

Have thought about converting yes, but 1, not what I bought the gun for, I have 2 .22s that I am thrilled with. 2, will be way more expensive than what I want to do. I rather keep it the way it’s and keep learning, while I wait on the “Superior” or sell it at some point and let someone else do that kind of thing.

Yes, as noted above, have single loaded. I’m pretty sure it’s the barrel.

Thanks for the shout out my brother! Sorry the WC isn't working out still. Here is a cold 8 shot group from my 177 and two other 22 cal FX rifles. 11 shot each with both 22 and 8 from the WC on the far right. I left it straight as I shot it. I will do better but I wanted to keep it real. I should set up and do multiples with the WC to get a better idea of its overall performance.

Very valid point Denis. That was actually the plan, to get a Taipan in .177 next year. But this was a good deal and research it (not enough) and seemed like a reasonable purchase at the time. Figured I could sell it next year and get something else. That and had never experienced an FX, so, I pulled the trigger on it. Will not sell for now. And then I will loose my a$$, as I can’t sell it in good conscience while it’s shooting like 💩
