Input please?

I compete in precision rifle, tactical 3 gun (handgun, AR and long range), sniper and long range rifle comps.
Life and weather can make it difficult to get to the range sometimes.
I have an indoor space to practice to just over 10 yards. I'm not likely to use this gun for hunting.
I'm not interested in spending a ton of money on an air rifle. I don't need the best equipment. I just need to practice shooting from awkward positions and basic mechanics.
Some I'm looking for something a little more entertaining than dry fire practice.
Past experience with springers lets me know I don't want to go that route.
I'm interested in going the PCP route with a hand pump. I'm a retired professional athlete, a strength and conditioning coach by trade and have a very high level of fitness.
Currently I'm looking at a Benjamin Maximus and the Benjamin hand pump.
I'm undecided on caliber?

I'm looking for input on alternative setups in similar price range and best caliber for my needs?

Thanks in advance

If you just want to shoot indoors, I'd highly recommend a Weihrauch HW30s in .177. It can be found for around $299 - there are different stock/combo options that can make the price a bit more. I know you don't like springers, but I'm guessing you never tried this springer. Totally different compared to what you'll find in any big box store. It's a beloved favorite for many shooters on this/other forums, from young to old, because of how accurate it is, how easy it is to cock, how hold insensitive it is, and the fact that it comes set up with open sights right out of the box. It's all metal and wood construction yet light weight and won't cause any fatigue. It comes with arguably the best trigger you can find on a springer. It puts out roughly 6 ft/lbs of energy, plenty for your indoor range. It is very quiet as well. I shoot mine at 30 yards and it'll put 5 shot groups within 1/2" easily with a quality scope. I'll link to two videos for you to check out, one being mine. This is my go to plinker when all I want to do is shoot accurate groups and work on my shooting mechanics.

Hey Coach ... good to see you on the forum ... WELCOME!

One thing I would be concerned about on your objective of getting as much practice in as possible in prep for your other interests in the powder burning side of the sport is the amount of time consumed by pumping the gun up. You are in real good shape apparently but that's not what I am talking about. When pumping a pcp airgun you will have to pump a few minutes and then let the pump cool down otherwise you will end up burning the O-rings out of your pump and the Benjamin pump is famous for blowing O-rings.. Then you are faced with a rather time consuming chore of breaking the pump down and replacing the O-rings in the pump. I've had two Benjamin pumps and they both did the same thing. If I were interested in doing what you propose for the reasons you state, methinks I would invest a few extra bucks in a compressor and air tank because the objective is to practice shooting rather than physical training. Pumping is about as entertaining as watching grass grow.

It seems like shooting a springer is a skill all unto itself?
