Initial impressions of the Gauntlet 2 in .25 cal.

Yesterday I got to do a feeble attempt at zeroing the scope on my new G2. I bought the Tasco 4-12X. I was so tired of not being able to get this thing at least usably zeroed for the back yard groundhog invasion going on. To this point I've been slinging lead in the form of the Ruger 10/22 shooting Remington SubSonic LR ammo. I will admit it's pretty deadly in my hands after nearly 20 years of this war. So I tried. I have the longest Harris bipod 13"-23" on it using the M-Lok system. I was sitting in an office chair on casters. By now means was it a steady rest. I set the scope to 9X and the target at 25 yds (laser measured). The front end was stable with the bipod in the shortest position and the seat lowered. BAck end wobble was purely me.. I sort of set the initial zero with the cheap Hatsan 24.7 gr. the shot the RWS 31 gr. Superdome and finally the H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme 28.24 gr. The best was sort of a tie between the RWS Superdome and the H&N Baracuda. I did a 6 shot group of about an inch with 5 of those 6 going into about 3/8".

As I said it was more out of frustration and certainly can't call this a true test. I'll break out the Benchrest stuff and give it a proper go sometime soon. The RWS Superdomes shot a big ragged hole about 1 1/2" oval with 10-12 shots.

CONCLUSIONS??? I'm definitely within Minute of groundhog head with 25 yds........ More to follow..

Satchel,

My Gen One Gauntlet .25, shooting the JSB Exact King Heavy (33.95 grain,) at a paltry 739 fps, is one of the most accurate shooters I own. Doesn't care for JSB Exact King (25 grain) or any H&N, but at 50 yards the consistant accuracy of the King Heavies is just amazing. If this gun wasn't 47 inches long and 10 pounds (scoped,) I'd never have had the need for another. WM

They are heavy beasts..

You might want to try Polymags too. Hit like a brick. If they're too long for the magazine you can clip the tips with a nail clipper to fit the mag. Won't affect accuracy! I'll send you a sampler if you want.
Sure, I'd love to try them. I have a single shot try that comes with the rifle, so no need to clip..

How do you get within 25 yrs of a ground hog. My shots are all 70 - 200 yds!
They are under and around my neighbor's deck!! Even dung under the sidewalk and piled the gravel under the concrete on the first step leading down to the walk-out.. They are in the south facing retaining wall hill and my house sits south of it. I kneel on my deck with the rifle on the railing. It's very sniperish..
