In Mesa AZ at 2018 EBR

Yes, but for the .22 you can’t think “normal” .22 that we are all used to shooting 18.1 grain pellets at 30 fpe. We’re talking .22 with 25.4 grain pellets shooting at over 50 fpe, which is considerably more powerful and with a much higher BC than even the standard .25 JSB Kings. I’d think of these new HP .22’s as a new class of airgun. No normal human could have shot 215 today at 100 yards with a .22 shooting 30 fpe. At least not in this universe...

Mike... from the videos, it looked like most of the Red Wolves were shooting without moderators - is that correct?

Do you think a moderator is likely to work against accuracy/consistency?

I shot the .30 FX Bobcat Terminator in the Main Event shooting JSB 44.75 at 885 FPS. For AFT, 50 yard BR and Speed Silo I shot the .22 Cricket mini Carbine shooting 18.1 JSB at 855 FPS. I should have brought my .177 RAW TM1000 for the 50 yard BR, I would have probably done better...

Some RWs had moderators, some didn’t. They aren’t that loud without a moderator. Whether it affects accuracy or not is specific to that gun. I wasn’t using one on my Cricket, but was using a DonnyFL Ronin on my Bobcat.

Nice!

Sounds like that Cricket was lickety-quick running (and accurate) for you on the speed silo. There are a lot of Cricket fans out there, but I've never seen one in person, unfortunately.

Yes, the .22 Cricket mini Carbine turned out to be a very good gun for the Speed Silo. The mags hold 14, so I only needed 2. I used the Ernest/Tomcat method of pouring pellets on top to load. On the finals where I was DQ, my initial pour resulted in one mag with 14, the other with 13, so in about 5 seconds I had two loaded mags, and was off to the races. Now only if I didn’t dumb ass shoot the wrong targets...

This is the Cricket as it is now and used at EBR. Vortex Razor HD LH 3-15x42 scope, Neil Clague CF shroud, custom biathlon extension on cocking lever, Caldwell CF bipod.

And this is the Cricket as I bought it used. I had originally installed a Bushnell Engage 30mm scope.

To Mr. Robert Buchanan:

New class of rifle, the .22 HP. And a suggestion for AoA, the organizer and major sponsor of EBR.

In classes of rifle, there should be a change in requirements.

Case in point, the American Field Target (AFT). The classes were Sniper, which was .22 and lower, and Extreme, which was .25 to .35. Looking at the results, the Sniper Class did far better than the Extreme Class, and this was unusual and opposite of the preceding years. Major reason for this is the .22 HP, and also many good shooters were shooting the "one gun challenge" which required .22 or below. All top 3 in Sniper were better than the winner of Extreme.

So, in order to keep things fair for those that would like to shoot "normal" .22, or even .177, the rules should be changed to specify Sniper as 35 FPE and under, and Extreme as greater than 35 FPE. I feel that this was the intent when the AFT was stood up initially, and the intent of the Sniper versus Extreme classes was not followed this year at all. The HP .22's shooting at over 50 FPE were the winners, but some were more powerful and shot a much flatter trajectory than most of the .25's being shot in Extreme.

Not whining, I'm not a good enough shot to have placed in the Sniper class with my 30 FPE Cricket. I didn't consider that a large number of shooters would be shooting 50 and up FPE guns in Sniper class. Has I thought of that in advance, I'd have just shot my .30 Bobcat in Extreme and been fairly competitive (with the other Extreme shooters, not with the guys shooting scores of over 34 in Sniper...)
