Pretty funny but justice was done. I did realize that eventually and the scope I finally got is a 4 x 16 x 40 and works just fine. No sign of the "apparatus" in the scope at any power setting. I picked the scope partly because of the reticle which is very similar to yours above.
BTW, I was watching one of those cop reality shows and they had a hostage situation. A sniper cop was positioned behind a low brick wall for a critical shot. When he finally shot....no impact !! Turns out his scope line of sight was clear but his barrel was below the top of the brick wall, which he hit! No harm done except to his pride.

Well, the stars have aligned. For those (well, one guy anyway) who wanted to know how my Gamo Swarm .177 grouped......gun has been shot in (about 250 rounds), all screws tightened and loc-tited, scope changed and fiddled with, and barrel cleaned. And finally a quiet (wind) day.

Just under an inch at 25 yards. Fairly circular group.

The gun does not like touching anything hard (which means it's perfectly good touching an old f*rt like me, LOL).
