Tuning Impact MKll PP finally went off its nut

You bring up a good point and that is something I’m trying to find out about this gun. Like you and a lot of others, when I had my first Impact probably 5 years ago, I couldn’t keep my hands off it. I was always chasing a better setting or different pellet. Since dumping that gun, I’ve owned a couple guns that were set it and forget it. They have maintained that setting for long periods of time. Because most Impact owners can’t leave their settings alone, does this behavior not expose an ugly truth about the gun. The constant flow of new gadgets for the gun always has guys playing with it. Is it a gun that can be set and left alone for years? I plan to find out. For me, all the adjustability is not for playing, it’s for finding a perfect balance for the one projectile I want to shoot. I have no desire to shoot a bunch of stuff at different speeds. I want it to be my grab and go 80 and beyond airgun.

Vetmx, all I want is stellar accuracy at (for now) 70-100 yards. I too like the adjustability of my rifle so that I can dial it in as well as possible. After that, I want it to stay there, and I don't want to switch back and forth among projectiles, speeds etc. In my case, my ammo changed and I am struggling to get my old performance from the newer version of my favorite slug.

When I was shooting NSA slugs out of another gun, they originally looked a nice bright silver. Then he changed the process and they were kinda white and looked horrible. Then they changed again. Throughout all the changes it never affected me. I always washed my slugs in acetone then lubed them myself. Even when they stated they were now prelubed. When it comes to slugs and airguns, I try to control as much as possible in the name of consistency. Ammo suppliers across all shooting sports can throw a wrench in your gearbox. With airguns, sometimes if they change the lead recipe just a little, you’re done. Time to look for a new slug.

Well, tore down my gun today. Looks like the tip of my valve rod is bent, quite noticeable when screwing C1 back in place. Maybe the rod is bent in other places as well; it was much more fiddly to get the rod back in place during reassembly than I remember. That would explain wacky velocity variation, and hopefully all my other troubles as well. New parts ordered.

This has been a really interesting read. I have a mk2, 600 mm .22 impact. I haven't touched any settings from the factory, apart from twirling the hammer wheel, and it is shooting JSB 18 grn at 850 fps, and it groups beautifully at 50 m, and is very quiet. Reg is at about 90 bar.

I would be interested in slugs for their better BC at longer ranges for small game, but they are hard to come by and expensive here in NZ. My other main concern, which you have all talked about is, why change a sweet tune for the hope of a ....sweet tune.

Thanks guys, I'll return to the shadows and enjoy your thread.
