Impact and Sidewinder.

I took my Hawke Sidewinder off my 17 HMR, put it on my FX Impact and found it difficult to centre the reticle. As the gun shop had fitted higher mounts I thought it was caused by the smaller diameter reticle. A couple of days ago I brain shot five squirrels but had to persevere with the sight picture before each shot.

Back to the gun shop and they fitted Hawke 30mm high mounts with a 1" reach, and didn't charge me. Now the sight picture is spot on. I should have taken the advice of those who told me I needed to change the mounts, and I was ready to swap the scope for the Sidewinder with the larger reticle, so I saved some money and solved the problem.

When the bloke at the gun shop fitted them he said there was no need for high mounts. They might have been medium? Everyone said I needed higher mounts but, as the gun shop had put them on, I soon blamed the smaller reticle. I have a Hawke Sidewinder with the bigger reticle on my FX Crown and had no trouble with it, so it was too easy to blame the smaller reticle, especially as the scope on the Crown has medium mounts. Anyway I'm set up now, and just need a break in the wind and rain to get zeroed again.
