I’m having a difficult time putting in my piston seal.

As you slide the piston/ seal into the compression tube I use a small flat blade screwdriver to push the lip of the seal down so it doesnt get nipped off by the sharp edges. Yes this can be a slow process but care is needed!! Did you moly greasevthe inside before inserting the piston/ seal combo? Will be easier if a very light coat of moly grease is rubbed into the internal surfaces. What about sizing your seal, does it come already sized or do you need to size it first?? Once I have everything at correct size and lubricated, I add a drop of chamber lube and use a finger to wipe it all around the outside edges of the seal. The start inserting slowly, when the seal comes to an edge, use that tiny little flat blade to push the seal adge away from that sharp edge!! Keep going slowly and watch for any sharp edges comming up as it slides in. Sometimes I find it helps to rotatevthe piston a little to help it along. GO SLOW..and push that seal adge away just a slight amount so it doesnt get cut off. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

OMG! Your method was by far the easiest method (greased my shirt though lol). I did boil it too! Didn’t even take 1 minute. UPVOTED! Thank you 🙏

I used a Dremmel tool to deal with any potential sharp edges and/or corners in the receiver tube. I then used polishing compound to put a mirror smooth finish on those say areas. Didn't have to worry then about catching the seal on anything sharp. How does it shoot ? I didn't like the Vortek seal as it seemed to take about 10 lbs of force to move it into the tube.

Ok so turns out the vortek seal is bad. Just my luck. I contacted vortek so now it’s a waiting game. It’s kicking way too hard…and only 8.5 F.P.E. (spring is rated at 13-14 F.P.E.)! Funny thing is that I grouped 10 shots very well though at 28 yards…with the scope moving too! Ordered new mounts as well so gotta be patient…but it’s killing me because I need the gun fixed before turkey season comes around here in Cali…!

The seal isn't "bad" it's probably just not sized correctly. It's either too loose, or more likely way too tight.

They aren't always "drop in" even though the seller would lead you to believe that.

Exactly! Money on way too tight! I’m being sent another one and hopefully it’s sized right. If not I’ll size it myself.

ARH sells different sizes of seals for the same gun for this reason. Might be an option you can look into.

Hey thumper. Another issue is that the rifle also has quite a high extreme spread. I went from 609 to 629 then back to 600. Is this because of the bad seal?

That's not an astronomical extreme spread from a gun with new parts. It could be the seal, but could also be from other things, one of which being pellet fit. I have a couple guns that will do 3-5fps spreads with Crosman Premier Lites, but 8-10fps with JSBs.

Also it could be dieseling a bit. More or less depending on what kind and how much lube you used.

Hard to say. Whatever it is, a properly fitted seal is important to long term consistency and a stable zero with temp changes.
