I'm frustrated with "My gun don't shoot." Threads -- Satire

I don't mind the threads that ask "why won't my gun shoot straight". The threads that get me are.............................The threads where someone starts and says "I have $200 to spend" which air rifle should I buy. That is a normal question and one that most members should be able to answer. But before its over the OP is being told you need to spend $500+ for the "mac daddy" air rifle(it makes me smile thinking of the price of a scope and other things you will need). There is nothing wrong with someone starting at Wally World and getting their kid an air rifle. If nothing else it will enable them to someday get on a forum and tell someone........I wish I had spent more money on a nicer gun when I started. But back then I was broke and only had $200 to waste. ;)

And I even agree a nicer gun to start with would be nice, but not everyone can or wants to spend what some of us spend?

"kmd1984"<FACT ON>

YOUR thread is a waste of time (and I can tell without even reading your entire post).

<FACT OFF>

http://www.airgunnation.com/reply/137875  <= Because sometimes reading the whole thread is just too much effort.

So much for taking the time to try to understand someone else's opinions. While you are *not* reading that link, pay particular attention to the part about where to stick your thumb and how to dance the jig... ;) ;) ;)

"MANICMINER"if your gun does not shoot as expected, send it back immediately. Do not go to any online forums, do it the official way.

The retailer will take care of you, thats the minimum what they can do, why?
you have paid 30-50% of the price into the retailers pocket.thats why.

you are entitled to the service.
Once again I will tell you for a FACT that profit margins are not that much for retailers! :(

oldspook I don't think your post is as much as a rant but a good lesson to members here of how to responsibly reply to posters questions and problems. Many times a new poster has little experience and does know the problem areas and questions to ask. We should use our experience to question the poster on his equipment and shooting situation to help solve his problem. This holds true also with those asking for recommendations for air rifles. If the poster is not sure of what rifle to buy the best we can do for the poster is to find out what his needs and uses of the rifle will be. Not to recommend our favorite air rifle of the moment. I also don't mind if in answering a posters question or in the topic if a little humor is added while giving some useful information. It does irritate me when someone gives the poster a flippant answer that helps no one. Bill

Lots of great stuff here. I am a noobie here for the most part, but agree with what OP says. Being a member of several forums I have learned to be very straight and to the point when asking for help. Provide very specific info on every detail when asking for advice, and provide very specific advice that is relevant to the OP question. So many threads end up garbage because people stray from the topic and the end result has as much truth as a CNN news episode.

I am looking for some help with my new pcp and hoping someone on this forum could help. I have been competing with my rifle for a couple of months and have shot several 750 scores, the problem is I am not getting enough x's to shoot a perfect score. 47 x count is pitiful and I am ready to pull my hair out. This manufacturer should be put out of business. Also, I have turned every screw on this thing and it will only shoot 1400 f.p.s. and I am only getting 150 shots at per charge with the 100 cc bottle. Can I run liquid hydrogen to increase my speed and shot count? How many elk can I expect to kill with it? Do you guys get much pellet expansion with the alloy pellets? Who makes the quietest moderator, I bought one from (who ever) that was highly recommended and I can still hear a slight puff when I pull the trigger, never gonna use that guy again, any suggestions? Are wind flags really that necessary, after all these are just pellet guns...When I shot for the corps on the grey side during the civil war I could stack balls out of that ole musket by the thousands and now I have all that knowledge and am starting to settle down, why do these pcp's seem so finicky? Why don't these manufacturers make a 400 round clip? I ordered all their stuff online and I call them 25 times a day for the last week and they said it is on back order and it seems like they are starting to ignore my calls cuz they wouldn't even answer the phone on the Sunday during EBR, what the hell? If I don't have my instant gratification I am gonna get on facebook and bad mouth the hell out of these guys and tell people how they are shamming the heck out of us all.

Sincerely,
William Robert

@William Robert I had those same problems but I added the "macdaddy" barrel. I get all X's at 25 yards. And the barrel is only 25meters long and comes with 5 sawhorses.

"lee3045"i will agree on one thing for sure you can buy a remington 700 for 500 bucks and it is considered a top line rifle but air guns are over priced a hatsan at-44 is around the same price but is not considered a top of the line pcp so yes many are way over priced in my opinion
Um, no, YOU think a Remington 700 is a premium rifle. A Remington 700 is no more a top of the line rifle than the Hatsan you referenced.

The Remington 700 action is used as a reference and/or starting point for some excellent custom and semi custom top shelf rifles. An off the shelf 700 is attainable and serviceable for most people, just like that Hatsan. Also, where did you find a 700 for $500 new that isn't in that crappy synthetic stock?

I understand that it was a satirical post, but try to remember how you felt when you were green at this.

But there are a BIG group of airgun buyers who have either zero experience or experience 25 years ago with a multi-pump pneumatic. They saw the box, read the box and bought into the marketing, and then they found out about reality. They're SO excited, and then SO disappointed. Analytical Mode is off and Disappointment Mode is on. Emotions are running strong.

For folks like this, it is invaluable to be able to come to us for help, so that they can become knowledgeable and pay it forward one day.

So, I did get a little chuckle at your post, but I feel like the energy would be best channeled at writing an FAQ post for new shooters, or at least new springer shooters.

Hello everyone! I've been a lurker here for a few months, and finally decided to join the forum. I thought I had a *reasonable* knowledge base regarding shooting until I ventured into the airgun arena. The advancements in both technology, knowledge and techniques are absolutely mind-boggling to me.

Having said that, these are my thoughts about the comments made in this thread:

1. As said, I've been a "lurker", and consider myself to be a newbie. Until I attain the status of being the world's best airgunner, I will always be a newbie.
2. Being a "lurker" takes significantly more time to find the information I am looking for.
3. Being a "lurker" inevitably leads me down other paths towards new and intriguing/thought-provoking information. Then, it's back to #2.
4. Seeing posts made by members, as knowledgeable as they might be, that might be considered as being "less than considerate", has kept me at #1.
5. Reading the complaints about "newbie" airgun users has actually been helpful. I now have a better grasp of how to formulate questions/follow-up questions in order to attain the information I seek. Additionally, I'm not wasting anyone's time, nor am I making myself out to be a complete pillock.
5A. There is nothing more frustrating to me than reading through a 22 page thread in which the OP is experiencing a problem I am seeking information about. I get to the end of the thread only to find out that there was no conclusion. I will try my best to not be "that person".
6. Patience from those who have walked a thousand miles is greatly appreciated; even if I have inadvertently neglected to convey that gratitude.

Cheers, and I appreciate all of you.

Zoey have no worries about needing help. Just include every detail you can think of thats pertinent. If you make an effort to gain info you get a positive reaction. Its only the people who ask vague questions or dont give obvious needed info to get an answer that experience less than helpful responses. If you have a question you should ask it and you will mostly get very helpful answers. But this is the internet so theres always a chance you get an odd one😉
