Illuminated scopes

Howdy everybody..Just joined, so COMPLETE NOOB to PCP gunning. So hoping to get some knowledge from the more experienced guys/gals that hunt....Been a powder burner for 50 some odd years...Hunter even longer...I'm about to pull the trigger on a BRAND NEW .30 F.X. wildcat compact...I've been researching for months different reviews on .30 cal or bigger an the F.X. brand seems to have the inherent accuracy I like....The place I've hunted since the 80's has just changed hands & unfortunately so have the rules...no more smoke poles. But I did get permission to hunt with an air rifle...It's a VERY small peninsula off a lake that's an oak & palmetto thicket in fl...30 yards is the longest shot I've ever been able to make...IT'S THICK..and dark...I..SOOO..to my point...scopes with illuminated reticles.....any ideas on this...I've been lookin at Hi-lux CMR4 1x4x 24 & Konus Pro 1.5 x6 x 44....Anyone have experience with these particular scope...any & all advice welcomed...mike

Thanks a ton Keyman....Believe it or not ..I even fantasized about NV scopes and I remember that name...YEA..lol the ol peeps jst ain't what they used to be for sure...this guns gona pretty much have one purpose..short range maybe 30 yards tops..(at that place anyway)..But from ALL the vids I see on it..the ability of the gun has way more range in it than its shooter will at this stage of the game,,,LOL...it will definatly go to squirrel/rabbit country up in tn..I'll look up JOE Rhea..But think I remember that name too....Yea ...I've been burnin up you tube gettin everything I cud knowledge wise.....

Hi, I started this post not too long ago, and I hope this read can help you out.

https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/looking-for-mid-range-ffp-scope-recommendations/

I have the same Wildcat compact .30, and right now it's mounted with an Athlon 4-14x44 FFP with IR, roughly $300 or so (but I don't do any night/dusk hunting with this gun). For air guns, I found that the 1-4 or even 1-6 scopes weren't quite strong enough even at 30 yards for the small game that I hunt, and having the extra magnification really helps me place a more accurate shot. But I also hunt at longer distances too though. For your purpose of hunting, a 10 yard parallax is a must IMO.

And sorry I do not have experience with the scopes you mentioned.

Ihandy...Thanks for the reply....I have a red dot on the sub suppressed 10/22..Thats what i've takn a hundred hogs with on the very same property....little 20/40 lbs grill size porkers....thout about jst stealin the red dot & give it a try...sure wud fit a back pack alot better..as i have to anchor the boat & wade in to shore......Bobbypew....Thanks as well for reply..I saw the Athlon on optics planet...I'm more prone to the lighted circle style...only beecause this place is so over grown with oaks.(an acorns that these pigs love)..its rather dark at 1 pm....I'll check out the link you provided..i'm always in the market to learn "something"..especially when it's already got my interest....BTW...Do you guys know of any tuners here on the sight..I also was looking at the Hatsan flash pup & Diana skyhawk...I doubt if they can be tuned to shoot "CONSITENTLY like the wildcat..But the money saved would buy one of those niffty swiffty Nite scopes Keyman talked about...LOL ..Thanks again for your replies..mike

Dammmn Eddie...Those are REALLY nice scopes..That Blaser it's sittn on is even nicer...That's definitely one I'm gona keep in mind..I saw the tactacam & the wraith..But seemed like a lotta hassel..The ATN seems pretty easy to play with..The Benji unfortunately is .22...I need a .30 in fla to be legal for game animals....Like i mentioned above, I was also eye ballin the Hatsan & Diana..(price) but neither come in .30....Here, porkys' such a nuisance FWC just wants um gone as do most land owners...They're really gettin outa control....On one road i go down to launch the boat...You hardly ever go down it without seeing a couple on the side of the road....I spoke to an FWC guy and he actually told me...I could'nt stop & shoot one off a public rd or if they were on private property without permission.......But Just veer off the road a little n smack um with the bumper....No lie.LMAO....there a problem to say the least....A tasty problem I might add..So thanks for the reply...Im keepi n that ATN in mind

Do your due diligence always research before buying. Read the optics section. Lots to learn from actual owners and not just reviewers who don't actually pay for their own scopes that they are reviewing and notice what scopes they have on their own guns too very important.

Practice what you preach eh?

Take notice scope cam footage on actual user guns if the Youtubers are actually using them personally not only for the review for scope cam hunting videos and what not. Pay attention.

Buy several choices at a time from a return friendly company with the plan to return 4 out of 5 scopes or better yet like me 9 out of 10 scopes and I often return all 10 if they all aren't clear at max zoom power and fish for 10 more or 20 more next time to choose from and return all the rejects. You get first hand experience comparing 10 or 20 scopes at a time and return all of the rubbish ones. It's that Simple.

That way no regrets and you get the best out of them and know first hand which are really junk.

Odoyle...Couldn't agree with you more....I'm a very cynical when it comes to flowers & sunshine up your A#$...I look at the big box stores vids....Then do reviews from regular joes....I'm a machinist/tool maker by trade, so I've got first hand knowledge about manufacturing n how precision things work...It's all simple physics...Some of the claims these guys make are just outrageous..That's what sold me on the FX line...When I saw the factory tour vids of freddies shop..I was impressed...The European work ethic has always been top notch...The guy I apprenticed under was German..Guy was unreal in his pursuit for perfection...And thankfully passed that on...I've been ghosting around sites like this for months listening, learning...I take what makes sense..SH7^%can the rest..... Finally joined this one....I think I made a good decision...So far guys have been great...with solid advice..Present company included...LOL....Thanks Odoyle..appreciate your input...Mike

I don;t know anything about that scope you speak of. For me if I am hunting, I probably would stay home if I did not have a rifle scope with daylight bright illumination. Ten years ago, I thought it was a whistle on a plow, but now it it is the plow. Watch out for a lot of high dollar scopes as their illumination is weak. Can't remember all the scopes I tried and sent back or sold for a loss, tying to find the right one. I like higher power scopes, but here is a few I have now that have daylight bright illumination. Hawke Frontier 30 with the dot, Meopta Optika 6 , dot, S&B Exos 3-25, super daylight bright, can see the dot looking into the sun. Too d---n heavy, great for watching fields even past dark. That little MTC Atom is not bad I can see the illumination even in daylight. A cheap 3-9 Bushnell bright dot. One of my Athlon scopes has daylight bright illumination, but the same model on a couple others I got rid of was only good at dusk, not sure. Here is a real good one & won't break the bank. I have one & really like very clear a real light gatherer. I can go on, just a few I like. I do have a coupe low power illuminated, but they do not have SF or Parallax, so kind of don't use them must got a couple of those at scope shop now to change parallax to 40 yards.

The thing about he hawke frontier sf 30 the one with the dot is the dot is large & easy to see. Good for hunting but maybe not soo much for precision shooting. I love it.

If you want to try that cheap bushnell 3-9 I have pm, me I will send it to you ( conus only) if u like it you can keep it, pass it on, kind of a thing. If I can find it find it though. I set the parrallax down to 40 yards, so it is not cherry. had to heat it , The old ones they did not glue the obj.

Happy Hunting.

Wow Nutcracker....That's great info...AND a VERY generous offer,,I'm a big fan of German glass...Zeiss, S&B,,Steiner...I liked the Meopta..I think what I'm gona do is just steal this red dot off the 10/22..It's been more than sufficient so far....(not to mention..when the ol lady finds out I spent 2k on a "BB" gun.& didnt get her one too..I'll be the first one that gets shot with it)...LMAO....Seriously tho.....I really like the scope cam type set-ups.(I'm dyin to send my PETA veggy as%$wipe brother some POI footage)...I'll wait n do more research...See if i can actually look thru a couple (Odoyle & I are in total agreement) & go from there....So again thanks for the generous offer....mike

Stretch, here is a couple shots using my (*Graphic) Tactacam, & The Hawke Frontier or a Meopta Optika. One thing no one tells you about the Tactacam, while it is wonderful. It does reduce the brightness of the image you see through the scope. Not bad, but could be a problem late or almost dark. Maybe it is just me, I do have eyesight problems. A 2000.00 bb gun, heck that a deal. 😁 A man cannot really tell his wife everything,LOL...Besides life is short & you only live once. I was a poor kid, I want toys now,LOL

I have a 4x16 bushnell with a cf500 ir and a red dot on a 45 degree mount on my .30 rainstorm. The red dot is set at 40 yards I believe. A slight tilt to the left with the rifle puts the red dot dead on for quick acquisition if one pops out on me close. The combo works great for covering short and long range

That is a good set up. I used to have that on my Royale 400. The first day I used it, I remember it was raining. Was early in the season. I shot a limit and only used the scope once. so it is not just a gadget , it is useful. Worked wonderful using that distress call when they would be running toward you and shoothin them close. I also have used a iron sight like that. A peep with a ghost ring. You can get a lot of good ideas following the military forums. Thanks for sharing. Happy Hunting,
