Illinois airgun laws info needed

I just had to work out the same thing here in west Virginia and from what I gathered it's not a state law it's federal law regarding the moderator / ldc / silencer I called the Alphabet org and spoke with them and they told me it has to be permanently fixed to the barrel or you have to get a permit for 200 buck hope this helps you out

"Alan"This issue has been hashed over and over ad noisome. The law clearly states FIREARMS. Airguns are not firearms, and thus using LDC, shrouds, whatever you want to call them, are legal, removable or not.
Yes that is how it works. I am not asking about legality as far as BATF is concerned my question is for the legality in the state of Illinois as far as hunting goes and if Illinois has any local laws regarding removable LDC on an airrifle.

"Alan"This brings up another issue—where do you find the information you're looking for?

Very few governmental agencies post on-line the actually laws which they enforced. A few fed agencies do, like the FCC, but for the most part finding state, county, and city laws and ordinances (except for fish and game) is hit and miss at best.
Exactly. I have googled it but laws are not real clear and there are different regs for different hunting areas. So the only way to be sure you are hunting within the regs a person needs to contact the IDNR and ask about the specific area you want to hunt.

When I call the BATF they told me if it has a thread and or can be modified to fit a firearm they become illegal I had to submit an email to my local Alphabet org to get an answer for my ? I was trying to order just the huggett moderator with a 1/2 unf from overseas and could not I then contacted them he said I could purchase the barrel and they would fix the moderator to it permanently (which just means loctite)

The supreme court has already ruled on this topic and it was in favor of the airguns. The ruling points exactly to what you just said. They ruled that if it needs modified to fit then it cant be labled as a firearm suppressor. They specifically point to needing modified for multiple reasons. If the BATF were allowed to include items that needed modified to fit on the rifle then every one in the U.S. would become an instant felon.

Examples of why you would be a felon: plastic bottles, oil filters and plumbing hardware. These are all common house hold items that can easily be modified to fit a firearm.

The law states the BATF has to prove intent to use the item on a firearm. So if your ldc has 1/2 x 20 threads you cant put it on a firearm thats 1/2 x 28 tpi. If you make an adapter or re thread either the rifle or ldc you just created intent.
