If your gun can shoot JSB 18.13’s, A Slug for you

Griffin slugs thank you!!
My Discovery, Marauder, Rainstorm, magnum springers!!
Even my .215 bore 29” x 0.753” 2 L&G Benchmark sends these like lasers.

Griffins new .217 19 grain TC HP. Or SP, ballistic tip. It’s the truncated cone base that allows constriction at choke. And my Benchmark choke is at .213”

Griffin makes a deep hollow base, and this TC hollow base so no over obturation occurs from massive blast power. I’m gonna be trying these in 12 grains to 28 for R1 to FX Elite with power mods from the speed maker 29” barrel.

That’s why I don’t like short barrels. Not for slugs that need high revolutions to stabilize. Our AG twists are usually too slow; but send them fast enough and RPM’s increase also.

Same principle on my Scandalous w/ 0.750” 28”’Lilja 1:14 twist.
According to AF, optimal slug weight is 68 grains for 1:14. Mine sends 86 grain RBT’s better than I can shoot without a F-class rest because it’s spitting those beasties out at 1000+fps easily.
A 32” 0.750” 1:10 SS Lilja will be used for up to 120 grain RBT .257’s or lower weight ULD Griffins.
It can push those at 1000fps also. Yes, only one max power shot but that’s what my step down in-line reg & Alkin W31E Mariner is for.

What kind of groups and at what yardages does your Marauder shoot these?

I only received a test pack of 30, so no real groups have been tested. All I can say is with the prior zero, these hit directly in-line below my zero at 50 yards by 2 mils.
Keep in mind it’s a stock Gen 2 Marauder and wasn’t turned up, no mods at all. I single load also, so haven’t tried them in a magazine.

Would you enlighten me and explain the meaning of "TC" and "SP"?

Thanks!

Hi Matthias,

Mike calls the hollow base TC, truncated cone. There’s a deep pellet base with thin walls. There’s this, a hollow base with thicker walls.

SP is spire point. He also makes Hollowpoint’s & ballistic :

L to R: Hollow RBT base HP, Hollow RBT base SP, Hollow RBT ballistic tip.

RBT is rebated boat tail. Solid or hollow.
The new TC base (like a pellet but thick walls) comes with any tip/point you want in different OD’s. I’ve found .2170” to be best for me.

I have a Matador R3 long and have been trying the NSA 17.5 gr .2165 slugs. Here are my initial findings. (JSB 18gr FPS 930)

1) Cost is very reasonable. $18 for 400. About a penny more a round than JSB pellets.

2) At 40yds they are as accurate as JSBs. And shoot .5 inch lower. No change in windage.

3) Long range they hit higher than JSBs but more testing is needed to quantify.

4) When impacting pests they make a much louder pop and do lots more damage.

5) They chamber easily but not as easy as JSB.

Will share more info as soon as I can.

Update:

6) At 75 yds the slugs and pellets hit at the same elevation.

7) At 75 yds the slugs are more accurate and drift in a cross wind about 1/2 as much as the JSBs.

NSA slugs are awesome for the price and quality for a HS press. Nothing wrong with them at all in anyway.

I just believe RBT’s have an advantage at longer ranges and that’s what I use slugs for. Long range plinking fun. NSA’s are going to be bought & tested by me also.
I love ALL the Varmint Knockers also. Dale is hand swaging & sorting, as is Tom.
Lots of great slugs to test. I want to get some of Tom Holland’s .177’s as he seems to be the man with the biggest selection of .177 slugs.

I love the Griffin slugs. have tried every base, different diameters and the 2 strokes are incredible but cup base and deep hollow #2 are great too. they expand awesome. My 60+FPE kral .22 barrel loves them. I know my PB barrel was 1:16 twist but I changed that out for the longer Knight barrel and haven't measured it's twist but it's sending 27gr .217 2 stroke slugs out at about 960+ and they stack at 86yds!! and when you connect with a squirrel....oh my goodness, the pop is deafening!

I've also tried NSA (maybe the worst of the group for me, in marauder and kral, good in hatsan unchoked, terrible in FX like every projectile other than jsb...) Varmint knockers (old ones were great then they changed mold), AVS (ehh), some others on ebay, nothing compares to Griffin for me.
