I was told using 2 bags in Benchrest is not allowed, is this true?

For extreme benchrest, you can use two bags except for the speed silhouette where you can only use a front rest like a bipod or bag. Not sure how other benchrest matches are done.

Don't listen to the crowd. You're fine with 2 bags.

Hence the term “BENCHREST”!

If speaking of sanctioned shoots just google up a copy of the rules.

Be aware there are many types of bench-rest competitions, each with its own set of rules. The bench-rest silhouette matches I compete in don't allow a rear sandbag, so as to avoid it becoming such an equipment-centric race as many bench-rest competitions. MoF, there are even restrictions on the size of the front sand-bag. 

"Normal" 25M or 50Y outdoor BR events a front and rear bag are perfectly fine...

The local 10m stuff I shoot doesn’t allow a rear bag or scopes for that matter.

We have hosted regular benchrest matches in Temecula using airguns for nearly a decade now, and a sandbag front and rear has always been ok. Oddball matches fired on metal targets etc. often have non-standard rules, and that makes em fun, and different, but typically, benchrest is fired on paper targets, with either group size, or scoring rings being the criteria.

The principle reason for standardized targets and other shooting rules is so historical records may be kept so current match results can be compared to past ones. But "FUN" events can use any rules the host and contestants enjoy, right?
