I shot my first 10M indoor benchrest tonight

Since I bought my first 300S a buddy of mine has been trying to get me to come shoot some indoor benchrest matchs with him. Tonight I finally gave in and went with him. This is the first time I've ever shot 10 meter and the first time shooting off a bench with a front rest only, no rear bag. I finished last out of six shooters with a 470 out of a possible 500. The top two shooters were shooting Anschutz PCP rifles, there was one other PCP but I didn't see what it was. The other three of us were shooting 300's. Only one guy was shooting a scope, the rest of us were using peep's.

I have a lot of stuff to work on but I will go back. Fun night and met some good guys.
 
Usually, springers shoot in their own class rather than competing with PCPs. For your first time out, you did well. Fot 10M, you should have used wadcutters, right? Find the one that shoots best in your rifle.

Thanks, yes H&N Finale Match. I need to do more testing, but first I need to set up a range in my shop and find a good comfortable shooting position and practice. I need a lot of work and I still don't have the peep sights worked out.



These are informal matchs set up at a gun club about 45 minutes from me. At 57 I was the youngest guy there and a couple were in their 70's. Some of these guys take it pretty serious as it only costs $5 for the match. I don't have a clue what either one of those Anschutz PCP's cost but it would'd shock me if it didn't take all three 300's there to pay for one of them. They looked like something out of a star wars movie, lol. Having never been around any PCP it really surprised me how loud they were, a pretty sharp crack.



Win, lose or draw it was all fun and that's why I went.

Congratulations on your first match. I hear you on the star wars analogy. After a few matches it will all feel normal!! As JSP said, springers and PCP's shoot in different classes, so don't worry about their scores. Just have fun at honing your own skills. 

Once you've got your "range" set up at home, you'll be able to put in the practice time that will manifest in higher scores. One suggestion. Find the head size that your barrel likes best. It will really help.

Usually you can spend 2500 - 4000$+ for these anschütz pcps (with all that additional stuff) the sights are expensive!!

a good 300s can shot hole in hole at 10m if the shooter is capable and because of that, you need a stock that fits you perfectly in this shooting position.

and its very helpful when the trigger weight is less then 2 ounces :)
