I Once Said I Was Finished With .177 Calibers and 1” Diameter Scopes... NOT!

Hello AirgunNation Peoples,

Once I said I never wanted to own a .177 caliber PCP, nor another 1 inch diameter tube scope. Well, that’s all out of the window now with this great little airgun and scope combo I have paired together!

What I have here is the FX Dreamline Classic (synthetic) in .177 cal. Matched with the 1” tube diameter HAWKE Frontier 4-20x44 SF IR MIL-Pro (20x) Reticle.

Quite a name for quite a scope! I think I banded myself from 1” tube scopes because of how many I destroyed in the past with springers. 30mm scopes are my preference for the light transmission. But... This is a fine piece of glass right here! Light, very light weight, clear as 4k HD, and tracks as good as any.

I am crazy about the reticle!

This is the (10x) reticle, couldn’t find a photo of the (20x) reticle. The (20x) has even more devisions near the main crosshair. I’m talking about precise! It’s a true mil to mil at 20x magnification @ 100 yards and that’s cut in half @ 10x magnification @ 100 yards. I shoot mainly on 10x, perfect for this .177 Dreamline Classic.

And as far as this .177 caliber 20 foot pounder, there is nothing rabbit sized or smaller 50 yards and in that I couldn’t put a headshot on with ease! I almost forgot how fun it is to shoot a .177 that’s pin-point accurate! 9 times out of 10 this is all the gun I really need. Using my favorite .177 lead 10.34 grain JSB or Air Arms Heavy’s @ 950fps.

I actually nicknamed this combo “Head-Shot”!

What do you think guys?

Here are some 35 yard groups shot off shooting sticks and a sitting on a rickety stool. Stimulating how I would more than likely find myself hunting. Three 5 shot groups with each the Air Arms Diabolo Field Heavy and the JSB Exact Heavy Diabolo both 10.34 grains. Those aren’t flyers, they’re me not really being serious. All on me. Headshots none the less.

Thanks!

While i no longer compete in FT with a .177 ( been at .20 cal for 4 seasons now ) the good and reliable .177 is the preferred yard pest and plinking caliber.

JSB / AA 10.3 or Crosman 10.5 at @ 925 fps is lethal inside 60 yards and inexpensive to shoot as a bonus.

Favorite 1" tube scope ... HAWKE Panorama 4-12x50 AO with the 10x 1/2 dot reticle.

Just love the combo !!

I have a tweaked/modified .177 Gauntlet with a 380cc bottle and its an Absolute Pleasure to shoot!!

Shooting 10.34 JSB's at an ave 930 fps and even though I always mean to record the shot count,I still havent...keep losing count. (Over 150 easily).

I too have been Loving the .177 in this cheap, stupidly accurate rifle.

Here is the result of shot #3. #2 glanced the card and knocked it over, shot 1 was close...but a miss. This was at 50 yds.

The card was balanced on the archery deer targets butt.

That .177 Gauntlet can really cut a deck, literally! Dang accurate!!

Very nice setup. I have 2 guns in .177, but both are springers. My next PCP will probably be in .177, just don’t know yet which one, maybe two

Joe, you ever shoot anything heavier than the 10.34s out of it? 13s? 16s?

I’ve shot H&N Sniper Magnums .177 I believe they are 15 grains they did well! @ about 813fps I would like to get some JSB.177 Monsters to try. I like the 10.34 grains though in .177, to me they are the equivalent to the (.22) JSB 18.13 grains but for a .177 cal. For trajectory reasons I prefer to shoot in the low to mid 900’s with all my PCP’s. I usually go with the pellet(s) that will give me that most accurately. FX’s usually like JSB’s.

All good stuff!

It seems every week someone discovers a new brand of scope. I was suckered in a couple of times and bought one base on the comments here, but promptly returned them. I like Hawke scopes and I like their reticles the best too. For long range shooting or benchrest, you can't beat the Sightron SIII. I use the fine cross hair for BR and the Milhash for LR shooting. Coming in a distant third is the Aztec Emerald. FFPs are not for me either.

I never thought of getting a Hawke Frontier, but maybe next time. These little FX Dreamlines are pretty nice rifles too.

I have way more trouble picking a scope than picking a new air rifle. Go figure. This is why it's a good thing the rifles are always backordered for a month+, since it takes three weeks of ciphering through scope data to pick one! Thanks for any and all recommendations, guys... Right now I have Leupold, Hawke, Athlon-- all have their pluses and minuses, but it's nice when you can get performance and reasonable price together in one package. Definitely admire a light weight scope, now too...

I usually don’t care how fast they are going as long as they are consistent and group well at a usable distance (read, kill a squirrel or a rabbit) Check your PM inbox.

Check out the real life (20x) HAWKE Mil Pro Reticle? Illuminated with the front scope cap closed(pic taken with my phone). The freak’n windage mil-dots illuminate too!!

Crazy kool!

Could prove useful in the field.

What I really like is how the mil-dots/hashmarks in the reticle are calibrated to be true at 20x magnification. With my zero of 20 yards and tune of 950fps I need to holdover half a mil @ 50 yards when on 20x magnification. Using 10x magnification @ 50 yards the holdover would be a quarter mil high (the hashmarks are on the reticle for that type of aim). So half as much holdover would be required when shooting on 10x versus 20x magnification. I just like that! To me that equals less holdover on 10x magnification, which is where she’ll be set on most occasions. I don’t know scope and distance math very well, but I understand that much. I’ve read the manual and field tested this. Lol!

I get on pretty well with her!
