I now size my Pellets

eodman --=--
It takes a hefty push to get them into the magazine, it actually 'clicks' when it finally sinks all the way into the opening. I had to use a golf tee to push it completely though the magazine opening to emulate the rifle firing it through. I believe that perhaps with a smaller head diameter, the skirt would be slightly larger than that of the head upon insertion, but with the 5.54 diameter head pushing hard into the magazine opening, it creates a pellet that is sized the same head to skirt, without losing accuracy.

I finished washing and lubing and sizing 50 tins of .25 pellets Sunday night. I went to the range today and finished setting up the Impacts. They both shot great and the magazines fed so smooth . When I came home I cleaned the barrels they were so clean no lead build up. I took off the Donnyfl moderator and opened it up I noticed that was hardly any lead dust on the felt. I find that the washed and lubed pellets shoot the same as unwashed but the gun is a lot cleaner.

I will wash lube and size all of my pellets in the future. I haven't weighed or sorted the pellets yet but may try that with the Crown.

A Pellet sizing set is one of the best Investments for accuracy.

You can make the pellets uniform plus you can make the Right head skirt combination for the gunbarrel.

Here is my tool for cal 25.

It makes a big different between sized and unsized pellets for my Barrel.

The tool have from 6,34mm to 6,44 mm 11 sizing holes ,so i can size heads and skirts in best relation for me

You have to hade more than just one or two sizes, to find the best combination for your one gun.

Most People have fail with sizing becouse they dont have enough sizes to find the best combi for them.

My LW Barrel shots best with jsb heavy HEAD 6,35....SKIRT 6.38mm

For the most a 6,38mm skirt is maybe to smal, for me is perfect my Groups open up (plus Flyers) if i use 6.39mm or bigger skirts

Here is a 6 or 7 shot at 26meters groupe at paper it will be one hole

I am not a tartget shooter i use the gun for 40-150 meters plinking...but i like consistency

I don't get it....such exspensive guns and you have to size pellets to get them to feed right and be smooth....why?

The food being fed to such expensive guns are no longer perfect quality as they once were years ago.

Because the pellet manufacturers can't seem to keep up good quality control by replacing their worn out dies when necessary nor physically inspecting them enough before packaging and shipping them off to the dealers to sell so the end result is that pellets are no longer as consistent as they once were years ago when they first became available. Look at the once best in the world Crosman Premiers for example as to how they became today.

One would be extremely lucky to own a handful of guns which shoot any batch of pellets being good or bad batches with the same degree of accuracy without having to inspect, weigh, sort, size and even roll them short of owning a Thomas.

Based on my observation, sizing benefitted most for my springers and weighing for my PCPs but at least visual inspection is most important.

IF I get an acceptable batch of pellets from a new order then I feel blessed and I don't need to do any of that unless I want to compete.

very nice....you put a lot of effort into that stand / stage for the sizer. .25 pellets have been challenging for me , as primarily a break barrel shooter. the lighter .25 pellets have the thinner skirts and dont hold shape very well in the tins. seeing your work of art here reminded me of the day or two i sat in front of the tv to flare the skirts of h&n ftt's with a lonewolf pellets sizer (really crude compared to yours). i had traded a (then brand new - hot of the press) turkish patriot to c.a.p. airgun research for matte finished .25 noble patriot and chris had explained that sizing would increase the velocity from 800 fps to around 830 - and it did.....but....sizing one 200 ct tin with that lonewolf sizer (a golf tee pushed each pellet out of the sizer, leaving an irregular dimple on the pellet head) took all night .... two tins was enough of all that sizing crap. .........have you ever seen the video of the guys using a 5 pellet mold from jsb to make their own ammo ? think we have it bad , in certain areas of the world , i suppose one has to make his own pellets ! ...couldnt find the one i was mentioning above , but here's something similar. instead of a five mold, it's a ten mold... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ry9y-cXlCC0&list=PLfkoth0x1esay8xWgT1SI8pnuG0NetHL5

Head size is what is marked on the tin and, IMHO, is much more important than skirt size. Most push through sizers, such as Beeman, size the skirt only. This has a benefit in making the pellets more uniform, but the size and condition of the head is much more important for accuracy. Usually the head size is designed to barely engage the lands while the skirt is more heavily engaged by the grooves and forms a seal.

The only good head sizing dies I have used were made by Terry Robb or Dave Welham. Both have a tapered bore with a screw in stop at the end that allows you to size the head to fit a particular rifle and smooth out the skirt without otherwise affecting it. As a second step for competition, I will use the largest die in a Beeman sizer just to take the smallest possible amount of metal off the rear edge of the skirt to assure uniformity.
