I'm not one to post pics of groups, since it's just a picture of unknown origin and integrity. I've not been a fan of the FX liner/sleeve rifles, but love my old Royale 400 with the original, solid ST barrel. I'm not a long distance shooter, mostly 50 yards and under. The Royale has always been a MOA rifle at that range, and consistent. I shot this group yesterday at 50 yards, FX /JSB 18 pellet. There was no one with whom to share it, so here it is. The fact that I hit my POA was luck, I guessed at a 2 MOA holdover, which turned out to be right. That was not a good thing, as I don't like to shoot up my POA. Obviously, this is not a routine group, and I'd never claim otherwise, but it shows the dependability of this old rifle. Can't remember when the barrel was cleaned, but hardly ever. Sure wish FX would put some energy into a few small changes and put this rifle back in the mainstream.

Very nice shooting! Definitely a solid platform, and every once in a while still see them for sale. I've got a solid ST barrel (like yours) for my FX Crown, and it never disappoints.

What does the "ST" stand for?

Smooth twist-only the last foot or so is rifled, the rest of the bore is smooth.

Thank You John and that sounds interesting.

My FX400 and FX500 never cease to amaze me. Always hold zero. I have never cleaned the barrels. My friend has an Impact and Redwolf and makes some amazing long shots but when I connect with a 90 yard shot I feel just as good as he feels with a 125 yards. I've got the FX400 in my gun case right now packed up for the trip to Phoenix this evening to shoot at the dairies. See y'all at EBR next week! Scott

elh0102, there have been many times on this forum where you & I have lauded the simplicity, reliability, repeatability and, above all, the ACCURACY of the Royale/Bobcat/Boss platform. The Original Smooth Twist barrels are arguably the best pellet barrels ever made! The "straight out of the box" performance blew me away the 1st day I received my Royale & it never ceases to amaze me to this day. Same for my Boss (which I bought used a year after getting my Royale 500). I went ground squirrel pesting today & when checking my 50 yard zero before getting down to business my 1st 4 shots went through the same hole straight out of the case. No adjusting, no calculating, no tinkering, just getting on with the business of shooting. Unbelievably accurate shooting! Screw all the new bells & whistles. Just give me the reliability & dependability of one of these classic lasers & I need no more! People who have never experienced shooting this platform have no idea what they're missing. I feel bad for them. Nice shooting brother but then, that's to be expected with these guns. Once I acquired both of mine I sold my other 4 guns. There was just no comparison & I knew I'd never use them again.

It's funny, we call them classic & old fashioned but the OST barrels were a really new & innovative thing when they were released.
