Most ISSF (and not one Olympic) shooting disciplines don't allow for scopes to be used, only diopter sights. There's no advantage over a scope or regular open sights. If you're not a competition shooter, there's no actual use for them.
Perhaps your eyes are still good. I'm 66 and have to use strong reading glasses. I have an astigmatism as well. I use my prescription glasses for sitting at the computer but being a randy old f_rt just refuse to wear glasses all the time. A peep sight really helps me with rifles. Rear buckhorn and blade sights are really difficult for me. The fiber optics are better but I hate em. Not quite...in fact they have a HUGE and MASSIVE (!) advantage over regular open sights if you are near sighted. (the medical condition where you need corrective lenses of the (-) minus type to be able to see sharp in the distance). Because with a diopter you do not need to wear these glasses."Jonnes"....
