I did it! I sprung for a Springer!!!

Ok, I took the plunge. I just placed an order with AofA for a Weihrauch HW95L Field Pro in 177 cal. and they're going to install a Vortek kit before they ship it. The people at AofA were very patient, polite, and extremely helpful! I was almost going to order a rifle from Krale but decided to keep the money here in the US and support one of the vendors that has been recommended here on this site.

The Field Pro comes with Weihrauch's 3x9x40 scope and mounts. The guys at AofA said the glass is actually pretty good. This combo at least gets me into a rifle with a scope that can survive a springer, and I can purchase a better scope later if I have to. I'm extremely excited, and I appreciate everyone's advice!

I hope this rifle is as good as everyone here on this site has said it is.

Stay tuned for a test report, but I probably won't receive the rifle until week after next.

Thanks,

Chris Robinson

Had started with springer's myself, then to the 760 Powermaster, now the Winchester 1400CS. Still waiting on my ammo. I still think they're a good value these days, considering how far I've seen them come in 50 years or more since my Red Rider. What reticle did they give you? Mine's the usual duplex, & that's ok. Buyt I'd really rather have this 3-9 in a 40mm with the duplex/mil dot. Best of both worlds...

What did you shoot before?

9X is on the low side for an accurate airgun. I think you'll find that the gun can shoot more accurately than the scope's resolution supports. If you find the same thing in time, order a higher powered scope and put the 3-9 on ebay. Or keep it as a spare, for when you get a new gun but can't afford a scope, hehehe.

The HW95 has a great reputation. Medium power level, which is adequate for anything reasonable, but not too hard to shoot or cock. I just LOVE my HW30s. I think you'll like yours too.

You've chosen a great package. With the vortek kit your gun should be good for many years of trouble free service.

I just bought the walther lgv a month ago. I had looked at it for over a year when my friend, Billy told me about Airgun Depot and their refurbished Walther and coupon codes. Well I bought one and absolutely love it. It is every bit as accurate as most PCP guns. No pump, no bottle and amazing accuracy. Mine is 177, wooden stock and I put a 4-16x Tasco on it for now. I have a 6-18x Leupold that will eventually find its way onto that gun. Fit, finish and quality are first rate. At 25 yards, the gun easily puts 10 gr JSBs into a small ragged hole.my one criticism is the plastic trigger. They should have sent the metal tuning trigger along. AMAZING ACCURACY FOR A SPRINGER, AMAZING LITTLE GUN.

My daughter and I are excited. If she takes to target shooting, I'll buy her a rifle for her birthday in February and move this scope over to her, then I'll have to buy me a better scope!😁. Right now, 25 yards is my longest shot, so the 3-9x40 should be fine. I'm certain the rifle and scope far exceed my capabilities!

I'll update everyone after it arrives.

Good for you Chris !! That's a Great rifle , you and your daughter are gonna love it . And don't get too wrapped up with high power optics . Good glass always trumps higher magnifications, well at least in my opinion it does .
One thing I've found on springers is they seem to like a particular brand of pellets . If its say H&N that it favors then try a couple different ones , same with JSB . Make sure and post some pics when it gets here !!

Ok, I've been checking my UPS tracking number and my gun has been stuck on a freight truck since 8/25/2016 @ 0341 hours! How long does it take to drive from Arizona to Virginia?!!! Three days, I can do this...

I haven't been this excited about a package in I don't know how long! As a side note, I put up an electric guitar and amp to fund another purchase. Dang'it, it's already starting.

I think 3-9x is fine for a springer. You are probably going to do 40 or 50 yds max. AO and mil-dots are MUCH more important.

You did good. I think the HW95 is in the springer goldilocks zone for power and its the next one I'd buy. Weihrauch quality is mesmerizing.

One thing you might want to consider that I did on my HW30 is to take off the front sight and install a 'muzzle brake' if you are strictly using a scope. This is basically just an aluminium handle that gives you something nice to grab while cocking. To me it feels better than having my hand against the front sight on the skinny barrel and I think it looks cool too. The Beeman branded Weihrauchs were sold this way from the factory without sights.

Hi TDK,

the HW95L-TM that I ordered has the muzzle break and no sights. I like lower powered scopes because I'm about blind. 😬 If there isn't a lot of light, my vision blurs out. I had a guy offer me a trade on my guitar. He has a LNIB Leupold VX3 3.5-10x50 but it has a fixed parallax.

I will ill do an unboxing and first impressions write up as a separate thread once it arrives; which is tomorrow. Did I say that my rifle is on schedule to arrive tomorrow?!

The package left Hodgkins, Illinois yesterday at 0041 hours. I heard the truck driver, dressed in brown, was yelling ho, ho, ho as he pulled out of the depot...

My dog, Sprout, loves our UPS guy because he gives her a treat when he visits. I might have to give him a dog treat tomorrow, though I'm not sure how Sprout would take that.

Everyone have a blessed day!

Hi Everyone,

i arrived home this afternoon to find a brown box in the hallway! The rifle was double boxed and the outer box was completely Un-damaged, thank you UPS. I took the rifle out and it is beautiful! The bluing is dark and even, checkering sharp and consistent, and there was a chrono report where AoA tested the HW95 after the Vortek kit install.

I haven't had time to mount the Weihrauch 3-9x40AO mildot scope but looking through the glass in a dimly lit house, the image and clarity was very good. Actually, it is as clear as my Brother's $350 Weaver scope. The crosshairs are fine line.

To AoA, a big thank you!!!

Bad news is that I have to hours of homework that must be completed tonite, so I can't set it up. Maybe I'll have time tomorrow afternoon? Plus, it's a long weekend!!!!

I'll do a full review this weekend as a separate thread...with pictures.

Smaug, I know, I know. It's hard being a 48 year old full time college student, full time employee in leadership, full time dad, and full time husband! Good news is that I should finish up my bachelor's degree in December of 2017...Lord willing and the creek don't rise. ;0)

I've been pulling 70 hour weeks for the last six months (not counting school studies) and I'm looking forward to this upcoming 3 day weekend. I could use a break and some R&R.
