Tuning Hydro testing 480 cc Carbon Fiber tanks

Anything under 2" is not required. I wouldn't worry about it unless you see signs of damage/serious wear on the bottle.

Edit: CF bottles are over 2" and will require hydro.

I take what he said to mean any bottle with 2 inch or less diameter does not require hydro test unless it shows signs of possible damage from excessive wear or physical damages, dents , gouging or cracks.

According to DOT regulations, any cylinder under 2" OD and 2' in length is exempt from hydro.

I have never seen a CF tank under 2" diameter anyway. Smallest diameter I've ever seen is 5.5cm which equated to 2.165"

Oh! Thank you for posting this! I assumed the bottles on guns were the same as the 2" aluminum bottles having just held them side by side. I never actually calipered them.

Bingo, the 480, 300, and 580 are all over 2 inches.

Thanks for the correction. This could have been very misleading.

If you get your 300, 480, or 580 cc bottles hydro'd, TAKE PICTURES before you drop it off! 

The place I used last time used a wrench on the CF and tore it up. They ended up buying me a new bottle due to the damage but, it was a fight and I was being told to "go pound sand" until I told them I had DATED pictures as proof. 

In Canada (actually can talk specifically in Ontario) we have a volume limit of 1L (litre) and below no need testing and any scuba shop will refill. Before I got into a PCP I was using couple of those 1L bottles for something like $30 unlimited refills for a calendar year. I think I still have couple bottles from twenty years ago when my boys were growing up in paintball.

So, is the diameter dimension be taken from the outside of the tank or the inside? Should the carbon fiber be included since it could have several layers, making it a larger diameter?
