HW97K Velocity/Power Drop - Found it - Broken spring

On a previous post this morning, I illustrated the test results for my Motorhead tuned .22 HW97K, indicating great groups, but that it was really down on power from when it was returned to me by Scott in June of last year. When he tuned it, I know he utilized the original factory spring.

I stripped the rifle down this morning, and the velocity/power loss is no mystery now. The factory main spring has broken into two pieces. The amazing thing is how accurate and smooth the rifle was still shooting.

Scott's polishing and piston seal work was evident and very nice. The rifle was well lubricated. The piston seal was still in very good shape and should serve for a few more thousand shots. The breach seal displayed some wear and tear. I already had one in my parts inventory, so it has now been replaced.

A new Vortek spring kit is on the way.
